Both Nick and I are genuinely saddened to hear of the passing of Richard Burrett. Whilst he was a political opponent, he was a genuinely nice person and cared deeply for the people of Pound Hill who he had spent many years representing. He was always someone who was willing to work with others to improve people's lives. We had both had really positive and engaging conversations with him.
Our thoughts are with his friends and family.

Can I also add that I had known Richard for many years since from when I was first elected as a councillor in 1991 first time around and he was elected a year later . He may have been a political opponent but he had such a wealth of knowledge and attention to detail that was second to none . .He showed that being a councillor is not just about party politics but helping people out residents in the local community that he was elected to serve . He was also a big fan of alternative / indie music and we had several mutual friends from the local Crawley music scene . Nick

We are deeply saddened that our dear colleague Richard Burrett has passed away. Richard served as Crawley Borough Councillor for Pound Hill North from 1992 to 2023 and as West Sussex County Councillor for Pound Hill from 2009 to 2026, his term ending just a few weeks ago. Richard loved his role as a local councillor and was dedicated to helping Pound Hill residents throughout thirty-four years.

Uniquely, Richard is the only Councillor ever to have served as Deputy Leader at both West Sussex County Council and Crawley Borough Council, at different times. In 2024, he was awarded the Freedom of the Borough of Crawley. Richard's contribution to local government and to political life in Crawley and West Sussex is right up there with the greatest in our town.

We send our condolences to Richard’s family and friends. We will miss him dearly and know many people will share our shock and sadness. There is so much to say about Richard’s contribution to public life in Crawley and we will post a fuller tribute in due course. Rest in peace Richard, gone too soon.

We are pleased to confirm that Labour's team for the local elections for Pound Hill North & Forge Wood will be Zahid Raja for the Borough Council and Nick Hilton for the Pound Hill Division of West Sussex County Council.
Our priorities have been to keep this area clean, green and safe. We are proud that:
- The Council have agreed extra resources for our local neighbourhood services team based at Ridleys who carry out grass cutting, collect litter and remove fly tipping.
-The Environmental Enforcement teams are dealing with residents who drop litter and fly tip.
- Worth Park has been awarded a Green Flag award and is a haven for nature & biodiversity.
- Our hard work as ward councillors has paid off to push for the Grattons Park play area to be repaired and it will be totally refurbished in 2027.

We have regular meetings with the local PCSO that have focussed on anti-social behaviour and how the Council and the Police can work together to sort out common issues.
We worked with residents in St Mary's Drive to investigate the source of pollution in the Gatwick stream .
After years of inactivity we worked hard to put road safety at the top of the agenda at school side in Forge Wood. If elected to the County Council Nick will campaign for the speed limit to be cut along Radford Road, which local residents have been waiting far too long for.
Support us by voting Labour in Pound Hill North and Forge Wood in the local elections and help us continue the good work we started here 3 years ago.
