Celebrating National Volunteers’ Week 💙

Today we came together for a special service led by Rev.d Andy Dovey, recognising the incredible contribution of our volunteers across the Trust.

We were honoured to hear readings from our Muslim, Hindu and Sikh chaplaincy volunteers, reflecting the diversity, compassion and dedication that make our volunteer community so special. Chief Nurse Deborah Kelly also shared her own volunteering journey, reminding us of the lasting impact volunteering can have on both individuals and communities.

We ended the service on a high with a moving rendition of Proud by Heather Small, followed by some well-deserved cake! 🍰

A huge thank you to all our volunteers for the time, kindness and support you give every day. We are truly proud of you.

This Volunteers’ Week, we’re proud to recognise the incredible contribution of our 249 volunteers, with around 50 more joining us soon through the recruitment process.

Our volunteers support both ward-based activities and administrative roles, helping to enhance patient experience and ease the pressure on our teams. They bring valuable skills, confidence with technology, and a real willingness to help—making a difference every day across the Trust.

We also have administrative volunteers ready and eager to do more, but we need your help to create suitable opportunities.

☀️ A big thank you to all our incredible staff who continue to go above and beyond, even in the heat 💙

To help keep colleagues cool and supported, we went across the hospital, handing out ice lollies as part of a staff wellbeing initiative. 🍦

A special thank you to our Charity and Health & Wellbeing team for making this possible, your support helps make days like this that bit brighter. 🌟

Work is beginning on our Dementia Garden at Croydon University Hospital, a project designed to support older patients and people living with dementia. For many, a hospital stay can feel confusing and overwhelming. This garden will provide a safe, accessible outdoor space away from the clinical environment.

Thoughtfully designed with:
🌱 Accessible pathways and seating
🌱 Clear, safe walking routes
🌱 Sensory planting to support wellbeing
🌱 A welcoming space for families to spend time together

This is about more than a garden. It’s about supporting dignity, independence and emotional wellbeing alongside medical care. With your continued support, we can bring this space to life and make a lasting difference for patients and their loved ones.

Dementia affects many people and families across our community. This week, we are supporting Dementia Action Week by raising awareness and helping people better understand this condition.

Dementia is more than memory loss - everyone’s experience is different. That is why it is so important to build understanding, reduce stigma and ensure people feel supported.

At Croydon Health Services, we are working to:
🧠 Support people living with dementia to live well
🧠 Provide compassionate, specialist care
🧠 Raise awareness and understanding
🧠 Help people access the care and support they need

🌟👏ISS Croydon Mental heath awareness week & Staff Recognition🌟👏

Yesterday we had our ISS Croydon Mental heath awareness week & Staff Recognition.

This week, we proudly recognise ISS Croydon staff during Mental Health Awareness Week, taking place from 11–17 May 2026. This year’s theme is “Action” encouraging everyone to take positive steps to support mental wellbeing for ourselves, our colleagues, and our communities.

At ISS Croydon, we want to recognise and thank all staff for the dedication, compassion, and hard work you continue to show every day. The work you do often goes unseen, but it has a direct impact on patients, visitors, and colleagues across the Trust.

Mental health matters just as much as physical health. Taking action can be as simple as:

Checking in on a colleague
Taking time to rest and recharge
Speaking openly about wellbeing
Supporting one another during challenging times
Recognising and appreciating good work

This week is not only about awareness, but about creating a workplace where people feel supported, valued, and respected all year round. Even small actions can make a significant difference.

At ISS Croydon, we would like to take this opportunity to recognise and celebrate the commitment, dedication, and hard work of all our staff, especially those who have given many years of service.

Long service is a reflection of loyalty, resilience, professionalism, and the positive impact individuals continue to make every single day. Your contribution helps maintain high standards and supports both patients and colleagues across the Trust.

We also want to recognise all staff members who consistently go above and beyond in their roles. Whether through teamwork, supporting others, maintaining excellent standards, or showing compassion and professionalism, your efforts are valued and appreciated as Employee Of The Month.

Recognition is important because it reminds us that every role matters and every contribution makes a difference. Thank you for your continued commitment and professionalism, and resilience. Your efforts do not go unnoticed, and your contribution is truly appreciated and Thank you for everything you do to support ISS Croydon.
