Do you think it should be easier to open an HMO in Newtown than it is in Swanscombe? 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗼

Newtown has one of the highest concentrations of HMOs in Dartford - yet the Conservative Council are 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵

Last night Labour Councillors asked the Council to 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻 - and put 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗛𝗠𝗢𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗲𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲.

Labour does not believe pitting different parts of the Borough against each other is the right approach to tackling the growth of HMOs. The Council will shortly be launching a consultation - we'll share the link here and we urge everyone to have their say.

This is the only source of money to fund the rebuilding of Galley Hill and it’s crucial that KCC don’t waste this opportunity, and that their political leadership prioritise getting a watertight bid together.

🚨Councils are changing and it’s your chance to have your say.🗣️

Kent County Council is being abolished - to be replaced by a number of smaller councils focused on local communities.

At the same time, the government is ending the current ‘two-tier’ system of local government. No more back and forth between two councils with different responsibilities, no more ‘we only do this’ and ‘they only do that’.

From 2028 - Dartford will have one Council that delivers all Council services, in one place. Clear, straightforward and transparent. More powers and more resources in the hands of Dartford residents to shape the services we use and rely on.
