🚧 MAJOR A38 Egginton/Willington Bridge works (Near New McDonalds) – information events in Repton

I know there has been quite a bit of concern locally about the upcoming works on Egginton/Willington Bridge, particularly the potential impact on traffic through Willington/Repton and surrounding villages.

Major improvement works on the A38 are planned to begin on Monday 21 September 2026 and are expected to continue until summer 2028.

Highways aim to keep the A38 open as much as possible throughout the scheme to reduce disruption, but some traffic management measures and overnight closures will be required.

🛣️ A38 traffic management

📅 21 September 2026 – 26 August 2027
• A38 open 24/7 with two narrow lanes in each direction
• 40mph speed limit in place between A5121 (Claymills) and Toyota Interchange

📅 27 August 2027 – 6 June 2028
• A38 open 24/7 with one lane in each direction
• 40mph speed limit in place between A5121 (Claymills) and Toyota Interchange

⚠️ Overnight closures required

To allow for traffic management installation, bridge propping and excavation works, the A38 will need to close overnight between Toyota Interchange and A5121 (Claymills) on selected weeknights, from 8pm to 6am:

🔹 21–22 September 2026 – A38 northbound closed
🔹 22–25 September 2026 – A38 southbound closed
🔹 28 September–2 October 2026 – A38 northbound closed
🔹 21–27 October 2026 – A38 northbound closed
🔹 16–17 November 2026 – A38 northbound closed
🔹 14–18 December 2026 – A38 southbound closed
🔹 4–8 January 2027 – A38 southbound closed
🔹 21 January–3 February 2027 – A38 northbound closed

⚠️ A5132 Carriers Road Bridge

📅 21 September – 9 October 2026
There will be two-way traffic lights in operation on the bridge.

📅 9 November 2026 – 3 June 2027
The bridge will be fully closed to vehicles while works take place.

🚶‍♂️🚴‍♀️🐎 Pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders will still be able to cross the bridge during the full closure.

I’ve been working with the Highways and National Highways teams to make sure residents are properly informed, and I’m pleased they have agreed to hold two public information events at Repton Village Hall.

📅 Tuesday 8 September – 9.30am to 12.30pm
📅 Thursday 10 September – 4.00pm to 8.00pm

This is a good opportunity to see the plans, understand the proposed traffic management and diversion routes, and most importantly ask the project team your questions directly.

I appreciate these works are likely to cause some disruption, so the more information we have beforehand, the better prepared we can be.

Just to let everyone know that the Sinfin Lane canal bridge is closed at the moment… it has been mentioned that it may be closed overnight.

The fire engines are blocking the road, as I understand they are filling up with water from the canal, as they deal with a local fire…

Please be patient with the policeman who’s holding the fort at the Sinfin Lane junction.

Greenacres Conservation area.

There has been some anti social behaviour at Greenacres. These have included a bonfire being lit, damage to the park benches, and Graffiti being sprayed on site.

If you see anything that concerns you or witness any suspicious or antisocial behaviour please report it to the Police. Prompt reporting can help identify those responsible and prevent further damage.

🚨

PC Harvey and PC Bennett have been patrolling local hotspots following conversations with concerned residents. Officers stopped and searched a male and his vehicle on ARLESTON LANE following checks made on police systems. A search of vehicle resulted in the finding of some cannabis for which the male is now being dealt with for. SNT Officers are committed to continue patrolling our rural areas as well as our built up villages to ensure ASB and drug abuse is tackled.

As you can see from our little egg friend here, we are working hard to rush the final remaining bins to your doorsteps! 🏃💨

The vast majority of caddies across South Derbyshire have now been successfully delivered. However, we know a small number of residents are still waiting on all or part of their new food waste bundle.

Missing yours? If you haven't received your indoor kitchen caddy or your outdoor kerbside caddy yet, please report it so our team can investigate and prioritise your delivery.

Derbyshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Nicolle Ndiweni-Roberts, has launched an important survey on Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG). This survey invites women and girls across Derby and Derbyshire to share their experiences, perceptions of safety, and views on gender-based violence. All responses are completely anonymous, and the insights gathered will play a key role in shaping future services and support.

We would greatly appreciate your help in sharing this survey with your networks, including those who may have been affected, to ensure as many voices as possible are heard.

Hi all,

Following the recent flooding events in the village, we are trying to build a clearer and more complete picture of how flooding is affecting residents.

This short questionnaire has been put together to capture not just whether properties have flooded, but also the wider impacts — such as access issues, disruption to daily life, and any other effects people may be experiencing.

The information gathered will be used to support ongoing discussions with Severn Trent, the Environment Agency and Derbyshire County Council, helping ensure that the full impact on the community is properly understood.

No personal details are required, and responses can be submitted anonymously. The aim is to identify overall patterns and experiences across the village, rather than individual households.

It would be really helpful if as many residents as possible could take a few minutes to complete it. The more responses we receive, the stronger and more representative the evidence will be.
