WOW! What an amazing Creative Comic Event with Laura. Everyone had so much fun 🤩

The children were all very quiet and enthralled and Laura took time to sign all copies of her books the children brought to the library. She even read one child’s home made comic. ❤️
They all went home keen to continue drawing.

Laura has donated a copy of her book to the library and signed it.

The library is open today 10–4 if anyone’s thinking of popping by. Remember the Creative Comics event is on between 1030-1115.
Feels good to slow down for a bit and enjoy a great book in the sun.

Derby Book Festival is officially this week and there are a wide range of events for all ages and families - become creative with comics and drawing workshops or learn something new with inventions and our introduction to dungeons and dragons.

Hi everyone, the last two places for the drawing workshop on Tuesday have now been provisionally allocated! Thanks for all your support of this event; hopefully there will be more in the summer holidays! Springwood Library is looking forward to welcoming you all on Tuesday!

There are TWO spaces left for Tuesday's Comic drawing workshop at the library, so please let us know if you would like one of these spaces for your child (ages 8+)! If your child loves graphic novels, manga and drawing, this would be a great workshop for them, and it's absolutely free!! Please do message us, it will be first come, first served!

Today the volunteers waved a fond farewell to fellow volunteer Allison, who is retiring from library service today. We will all miss Allison and wish her the best of luck in her future retirement. Allison helped to cover Rhyme, Rhyme, Story Time and we sent her off with a reminder of Bookie Bear! Happy retirement to Allison from all the team and, of course, Bookie Bear!

Since it is half term next week, we will be running a drop-in craft session on Wednesday 27th May from 5-6pm. As the sun is forecast to arrive next week, we will be making some suncatchers! This activity is suitable for any age from around 4 upwards and we have 12 available, so please do drop in if you would like to make one!

We just have 2 places left for our Creative Comics class with Laura Howell. This is a 45 minute cartooning class on Tuesday 26th May 2026 at 10.30 and is suitable for children aged 8+
