Insights from young people in Chesterfield, shared during our Hope Hack focus groups, remind us of the role of education to address the root causes of serious violence. By listening to young voice in our communities, we can inspire real change for future generations.

We’re proud to announce that Chesterfield FC Community Trust will host the 37th Hope Hack on February 12, 2025.

Hope Hacks provide young people with the opportunity to voice their perspectives and engage with issues that matter most to them. This event will focus on substance use, relationships with the police, their connections, and the role of social media in their lives.

Here’s a look back at the Derby Hope Hack in November, which saw incredible youth-led conversations and meaningful outcomes.

As we move into the new year, it's important to remain mindful of the ongoing challenges many people face. The emotional and financial stresses from the festive season can linger, potentially increasing the risk of domestic abuse, desperation, and even suicidal thoughts.
Remember, domestic abuse isn't just physical; emotional, economic, and psychological abuse can leave deep scars, leading to feelings of hopelessness. Tragically, research shows that victims of domestic abuse are more than twice as likely to attempt su***de.

Let's break the cycle of abuse and support those who may feel trapped and alone.

If you or someone you know needs help, please reach out to local support services. In Derbyshire, support is available 24/7 from the Derbyshire Domestic Abuse Helpline where domestic abuse advisors can chat to you discreetly and provide you with emotional and practical support.

Did you know that by pressing 55 after calling 999 it will alert a police call handler that you are in need of urgent help but that you are unable to talk? 💭

Dialling 55 lets the call handler know your call is genuine. Even if you cannot speak, listen carefully to any questions or instructions from the call handler who can assess your call and arrange help.

If you don’t respond or press 55, your call could be ended 🚨

This is important information which could help save someone’s life.

In Derbyshire we step in if it’s safe to. We care about our mates and keep them safe by helping them to walk away 🙌

👁️ KEEP AN EYE OUT : You know your mates best but if they’re staring, shouting or squaring up, it’s a definite sign to get them to walk away.

💬 A QUICK APOLOGY: We’re often not our best selves when we’re drunk. A quick apology on behalf of a friend can help clear up a misunderstanding before things could kick off

🚶 STEP IN If you feel safe to, you can step in and make eye contact with your mate, it can be easier to talk them down.

🙌 STEER THEM AWAY Actually taking your mate by the shoulders and getting them to walk away with you rather than just holding them back often works best.

🤝 ASK FOR HELP If there are other mates out with you, get them to give you a hand. The more people that stand up and step in, the more likely things will calm down
