📢 Important Update: Sound Moderators and Fi****ms Licensing

From 29 June 2026, sound moderators are no longer treated as fi****ms for licensing purposes. This change aims to reduce unnecessary administrative burdens for certificate holders, Registered Fi****ms Dealers (RFDs), and fi****ms licensing departments while retaining offences for those possessing sound moderators in connection with unlawful fi***rm possession.

✅ What you need to know:
• Existing sound moderator entries can remain on certificates until renewal.
• Certificate holders do not need to return certificates for amendment.
• No new sound moderator authorities will be issued.
• Historic authorities do not create vacant authorities or support one-for-one variations.
• Sound moderators no longer need to be stored in a security cabinet.
• Existing certificate conditions relating specifically to sound moderators no longer have legal effect.
• RFD transaction recording requirements for new sound moderator transactions ceased on 29 June 2026.
• Mail-order and distance sales are now permitted. • Sellers are not required to check certificate status before sale.
• Visitor permits no longer need to include sound moderators.
• Holders of either a Fi***rm Certificate (FAC) or Sh***un Certificate (SGC) may lawfully possess a sound moderator.

This change simplifies regulation while maintaining safeguards against unlawful possession.

WP FAL Engagement 🚩🚩

Members of the Wiltshire Police Fi****ms Licensing (FAL) team have been out supporting local game fairs, including Barbury and Wadswick.

The events saw Fi****ms Licensing Officers (FLOs), Fi****ms Enquiry Officers (FEOs), Senior Fi****ms Licensing Officers (SFLOs), and the Fi****ms Licensing Manager (FLM) engaging with the public, answering questions, offering advice, and continuing to strengthen relationships with organisations such as BASC and the wider shooting community.

🚨 Fi****ms Licensing Notice 🚨

Certificate holders are reminded of their statutory obligations.

Where a fi***rm/sh***un is sold, transferred, or otherwise disposed of (other than loans under 72 hours), certificate holders are required to notify your Fi****ms Licensing (FAL) within 7 days by law (Fi****ms (Amendment) Act 1997 Sect 33).

✅ Full and accurate details of the transaction must be provided
✅ Records must be maintained in a current and correct state
✅ Notification to the FAL must be made promptly

Delayed reporting is unacceptable. Failure to comply constitutes a breach of your legal responsibilities and is an offence!

⚠️ Non-compliance will be treated seriously and may result in:

• Revocation of certificate
• Refusal of future applications
• Further enforcement action where appropriate

Maintaining timely and accurate records is essential to public safety and the integrity of the licensing system.

Five models of Side or Top Venting Blank Firers (TVBFs) manufactured by Bruni are now illegal to own. From 2 – 27 February, there is a TVBF amnesty taking place across England and Wales.

If you own one of the five models, hand it in at Trowbridge, Swindon, Melksham, Salisbury or Chippenham police enquiry office before 27 February 2026 to avoid prosecution. This can be done anonymously.
