🚀✨ The is finally open over at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, here in Newham, East London and from today! 🙌🏽

I am beyond thrilled - it isn’t just a new building: it’s a powerhouse for our community, our young creatives, and the next chapter of East London’s incredible story in driving creativity and culture in the UK.

🎶🏾 What makes this opening truly iconic is the debut exhibition ‘The Music is Black: A British Story’ - a breathtaking celebration of 125 years of Black British music: from the jazz and swing of the 1900s to the Grime, Drill, and Garage sounds that were born right here in our East London streets.

Seeing objects like Joan Armatrading’s guitar and Stormzy’s Glastonbury vest in a world-class museum on our home turf is a moment of pure pride.

For years, we’ve worked tirelessly to ensure the Olympic legacy delivers real results for Newham residents and east Londoners.

From securing local jobs and apprenticeships during construction to ensuring this world-class institution is free and accessible to every single person in our borough is what Building A Fairer Newham
looks like in action!👌🏽

🔬 What an incredible day at the Newham Citizen Science Fair 2026!

🚀 At the Royal Docks Centre for Sustainability today, I saw the future of our borough: residents using AI to solve community challenges, students leading on climate tech, and our latest "Citizen Scientists" preparing for their UCL graduation. 🎓✨

When we launched our Newham Data agenda in 2021, we promised that the data revolution wouldn't just happen to Newham: it would be driven by Newham.

✅ Creating a roadmap for 5,500 new data jobs by 2035.

✅ Turning our local spaces into Spark Centres for innovation.

✅ Ensuring Participatory Democracy means residents have the data tools to hold power to account.

🔭Science isn't just for labs; it’s for our streets, our schools, and our shared prosperity. 🔬

From the UCL Academy to our Data Economy agenda and the volunteer-led Newham Citizen Science movement, we’re putting data tools into the hands of residents to drive change👌🏽

Want to be part of the next wave of Citizen Science research?

Applications for the April & September 2026 UCL Citizen Science Academy cohort are opening soon!

➡️ Focus Areas: The 2026 research focuses on migrant and refugee community experiences, marginalised women, and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

💻 Data is Power. But who holds the pen?

Today at , I didn’t just talk about spreadsheets: I talked about social justice in this data age.

As we navigate the profound shifts of 2026, we have to be honest: Data is not neutral.

It carries the DNA of its creators. If women and our diverse communities are missing from the room when the code is written, the systems we build will inherently exclude us.

In Newham, we refuse to be bystanders. Through Data Economy programme we’ve turned our borough into the engine room of London’s digital economy:

🚀 £1.2bn+ in digital infrastructure secured.

👩‍💻 1,000+ young women trained through our 'Girls in Data' programme.

💼 53% job placement rate for our AWS Cloud Bootcamp grads are women.

But innovation without ethics is a hollow victory.

Following yesterday’s landmark US jury verdict on social media addiction, we must confront how the "attention economy" impacts the mental development of our girls - and all our young people.

We need Algorithmic Justice - meaning no public money for biased systems and real accountability for platforms that harm our children’s minds.

As the Data and Innovation Lead for and through our work with I’m fighting to ensure that every Londoner from Canning Town to Croydon owns a piece of this future.

It was great to speak at the 2026 Summit yesterday with South Yorkshire Mayor to set out what we have achieved in and how we’ve intentionally driven inclusive growth 🚀

✅ We’re proving that place-based strategies, linking high-growth sectors like green tech & digital to local skill, are the key to unlocking the UK’s economic potential.

What does that mean for London and other regions in the UK?

➡️ Newham proves that London can help close the national economic gap by acting as an engine that shares success through supply chains, knowledge spillovers, and investment partnerships.

➡️ Our success is most valuable when it is connected outward, rather than operating as a standalone economy.

➡️ Move from ‘projects’ to ‘outcomes’. Every infrastructure investment must clearly link to jobs, productivity, and sustainable growth.

➡️ To keep talent and capital in the UK, we need dense innovation ecosystems where housing, transit, and workspace co-exist.

➡️ We must move past ‘London vs. the rest of the UK’ thinking. We must use London as a national engine, sharing success through innovation spillovers and regional partnerships.

➡️ The goal? A 10-20 year vision that ends "stop-start" funding and puts inclusive growth at the heart of our industrial strategy.

Let’s build a future where infrastructure isn't just about transit: it's about opportunity for all.

We Are Newham👌🏽✨
