PARKBATHE. Long message but if anyone is interested in helping to run this in Roxbourne Park or any of the other parks , please get in touch with Vanessa and please copy to us [email protected]
Hello
Thanks for your interest in the upcoming launch of ParkBathe Mindful walks in Harrow ! We are working with Anita at the Harrow parks team to facilitate free monthly,e1-hour peer-guided Forest Bathing walks for the community in West Harrow park and Kenton Rec.
And we have exciting opportunities for local people to get involved with free training provided !
Shinrin Yoku or Forest Bathing is a Japanese health practice prescribed to up to 5 million people a year in Japan. It is clinically shown to reduce stress and anxiety. Our one hour accessible slow and silent walks now support over 700+ people a year in Southeast London throughout 11 parks with many people returning week after week. Our peer reviewed paper saw a 40% reduction in anxiety and a 50% reduction in overthinking.
The sessions (small groups of up to 10) are not a walk and talk, not a nature walk and follow the same sequence every time hence they can be socially prescribed.
Training opportunities:
We offer free training for volunteers to lead these sessions, plus support throughout the whole project.
Walk Leaders guide the session.
Ambassadors support on each session.
The training is comprehensive and provides everything you need to lead a session, with all the heavy lifting support from us as we book all the attendees so Walk Leaders simply turn up each month. We've made it as easy as possible - you get instruction cards on a lanyard with a script so you do not need to learn anything, just read from the script! (More details in the PDF) The next training will be July with in-person training on site on 25th & 26th July in Harrow.
Most of our Walk Leaders have been with us for 2-3 years as they love being part of the ParkBathe family and we run team events and provide lots of support. Many enjoy seeing participants return month after month and also attend for their own wellbeing. They tell us that the training spills over into other aspects of their life as they build confidence, learn to lead a small group of people in an intuitive and gentle way - AND see their green space with new eyes.
We are now a team of 28 and we are actively recruiting both Walk Leaders and Ambassadors to get involved with our launch in West Harrow Park and Kenton recreation ground.

Best wishes
