Before the start of the school summer holidays, the Berwyn View Land Working Group began exploring options for additional recreational equipment next to the popular pump track at Berwyn View Recreation Ground. The aim was to build on this well-used community facility and consider providing further opportunities for residents, particularly children and young people.

The Town Council intended to hold a public consultation this autumn, giving residents the opportunity to review the options and ask what residents would like to see on the site, if anything at all.

Unfortunately, during this year’s school summer holidays, the pump track was affected by several incidents of vandalism. Damage was caused to the track signage and to the newly installed benches, and incidents of antisocial behaviour were reported to the police on several occasions. This repeated damage and disruption is a serious concern for the Town Council and for the wider community.

As a direct result of this vandalism and antisocial behaviour, the Town Council has taken the difficult decision to postpone the public consultation. It would not be responsible to ask residents to support further investment at the site while there remains a risk that new equipment could also be damaged. The consultation will remain postponed until the Council can be satisfied that the site can be used safely and respectfully, without further damage or disruption. We recognise that this decision will disappoint many residents, but the protection of public facilities and responsible use of public and community-raised funds must come first.
