Bus shelter success!
After calls from residents for a shelter near Esh Winning Primary School Academy, for parents and children taking the bus back to the Hamsteels Estate etc., the Lib Dem Team made a case to DCC for the provision of one here. We are pleased that the council officer was persuaded of the need.

NEW HOPE ON STOPPING NATIONAL GLASS CENTRE BEING DEMOLISHED

Speaking about Sunderland Council bosses commissioning evidence to support moves to stop the Glass Centre from being demolished, Lib Dem Leader of the Opposition Councillor Paul Edgeworth said:

“This is a ray of light in the campaign to save the National Glass Centre. Blocking the ability for the University to demolish the Glass Centre would be the right thing to do and will allow time for the Council, Government, University, charities and campaigners to get around the table to find a way of keeping the Glass Centre open under new ownership.

“Councillors from all political parties agreed months ago that the current building shouldn’t be demolished. Shamefully, the Council has had to be dragged kicking and screaming to this point.

“The whole city will now be hoping that ruling Reform UK councillors do the right thing and agree to stop the building being quickly knocked down by the University.

“We then need local Labour MPs, the Labour regional Mayor and the Labour Government to get off the fence and put their full weight behind finding a future for the National Glass Centre outside of the University’s grasp.”

Diversion will be along Ivesley Lane, then through Hedleyhope back to.the A68.
Road expected to reopen at 5pm daily

There will be an Extraordinary meeting of Brandon and Byshottles Parish Council on Friday 24 July at 6.30pm at the council offices to discuss the Council's response to DCC's scoping consultation on the County plan.
The meeting is as usual open to members of the public.

Congratulations go to our reader of the week, Deerness Branch Labour Party who clearly love our Focus leaflets! So much so they picked up an oops where we wrongly referred to the King David Bridge as being associated with a King James.
