📣UPDATE FROM TfGM REGARDING THE LIFTS AT FAILSWORTH TRAM STOP
📣FURTHER PLANNED WORK ADDED TO THE END OF THIS POST
Good afternoon,
I am getting in touch to update you on the work that will take place at Failsworth Tram Station. Work will begin this summer to replace lifts across the Metrolink network, helping to deliver more reliable and accessible journeys, particularly as some current lifts are experiencing ongoing issues, which can have a significant impact on passengers who rely on step-free access.
As part of this programme, lifts at eight stops will be replaced in phases - with the first locations including the outbound/Rochdale lifts at Failsworth
Work on the lift to the outbound/Rochdale bound platform at Failsworth tram stop is planned to begin on 3 August and last until 2 October 2026. There are no plans for any work on the lift to the inbound/Manchester bound platform during this period, which should remain open. There is a step-free track crossing located between the Rochdale-bound and Manchester-bound platforms at Failsworth tram stop allowing passengers to cross between the two platforms.
During the lift replacement programme, passengers requiring additional support will be supported with taxi transfers between Failsworth and nearby accessible stops at Hollingwood or Newton Heath & Moston, depending on the direction of travel. Taxis can be requested via TfGM Customer Services on 0161 244 1000 or the orange Help Points during normal operating hours, with an out-of-hours temporary number, 0161 244 0701, available through the TfGM Operational Control Centre.
We understand that this will cause some disruption to journey's during this period and apologise for this. However, this work is necessary in order to ensure Metrolink remains accessible and deliver reliable journeys for years to come.
We will continue to provide updates as this work progresses. If you have any questions in the meantime, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Best wishes,

FURTHER PLANNED WORK:
From Saturday 15 August to Friday 28 August, engineering works will take place on the Rochdale line.
On Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August only, no trams will operate between Victoria and Rochdale Town Centre.
From Monday 17 to Friday 28 August, no trams will run between Oldham Mumps and Rochdale Town Centre.
This is the latest part of a major programme of investment worth ÂŁ150 million across the Metrolink network.
As part of these works, we will replace worn track, improve drainage and strengthen the foundations underneath the rails. This work is essential to remove long standing speed restrictions and help trams run smoothly and reliably long into the future.
Replacement buses will be in place, and customers are encouraged to plan ahead. We've set up a dedicated webpage for these works, with information also available through the Bee Network app.
Thank you for your patience while we carry out this essential work to keep Greater Manchester moving.
