Just to set the record straight on the forthcoming cuts to health and social care, this is what actually happened at North Ayrshire’s budget meeting.

A payment of £4.9m from Scottish Government had already been unanimously agreed for HSCP.

The SNP minority Administration proposed a 12% Council Tax increase which would have provided an additional £3.5m for HSCP. This would have taken almost all of the care cost savings proposals off the table.

Labour, Tory, Reform and Independent councillors opposed this.

Labour then came forward with a proposal for an 8.5% increase with absolutely nothing extra for HSCP.

Tories and Reform joined forces with Labour to force this through.

The difference between our proposal and Labour’s Care Cuts Budget is £54.38 a year at Band D. That’s just over £1 per week. These figures have been confirmed by NAC finance.

The cuts to social care services did not have to happen but they became inevitable after Labour’s Budget was agreed.

A reminder to our North Coast followers, that residents are invited to the next Community Conversations event, hosted by the North Coast & Cumbraes Locality Partnership.

Taking place at Largs Library from 11am until 1pm on Monday 23 March, the session is providing a safe and welcoming space to have a chat about what matters to you and your community.

If you are unable to attend in person, share your views online at: ➡️ https://northayrshire.communitychoices.scot/nccommconsult

Why come along?

Head of Service for Connected Communities, Rhonda Leith shares:
“The upcoming session is all about listening, sharing ideas and shaping communities together.

"With a successful session already held earlier this week in West Kilbride, the Community Conversations are a brilliant example of how our Community Planning Partnership is working directly with residents to improve lives and neighbourhoods.

“Part of our wider Shaping North Ayrshire awareness-raising and engagement campaign, this is an opportunity for residents to share their thoughts, hear about great things happening locally and find out about what happens next across the four North Coast Locality Priority areas.

“The North Coast Locality team are keen to hear from you so that they can work together with communities to reduce inequalities and drive impactful change the North Coast and Cumbraes.”

No booking required – just drop in and join the conversation!

Great news!

ANNOUNCEMENT. LARGS THISTLE. 🤝 SFA CLUB LICENSING.

✅ We have received official notification from the SFA confirming that we have achieved all qualifying criteria for our goal of SFA Licensing at Entry Level, as approved by the SFA Licensing Committee today, 18 March 2026. This does not mean that we have secured the licence. But it means that we now move on to the final phase of actually securing the licence.

👩‍⚖️ Here is what that consists of, and a further explanation of the full process: only SFA Member Clubs can be licensed. We have now been granted approval to move to the stage where the SFA board will grant us member status. This meeting will take place on 23 April and we are informed that this will be a formality, as there are no variances, as confirmed by the Licensing Committee.

🔜 Once we have become a full SFA Member Club, we will be asked to attend the SFA AGM on 28 May 2026, where we will receive our licence. The SFA is happy for us to share this news, as we have been officially proposed to become an SFA Licensed Club at Entry Level.

Giving young women and girls the chance to play in Largs and to gain friends and important life skills. Largs Thistle is proud to support International Women's Day 2026. 💜

Happy International Women’s Day from all of us at North Ayrshire SNP 💪🏻

We are always proud that our administration is 66% women. Despite this fact, only 33% of councillors in North Ayrshire are women.

This year, we are delighted our new Cabinet is also 66% women 🩷
