☀️The sun is shining and over the next few days we are expecting temperatures to be in the high 30s with amber and red weather warnings issued by the MET office☀️

If you are visiting the park over the next few days please keep yourself safe:
- Bring a drink with you and stay hydrated
- Avoid the hottest parts of the day (11am-3pm)
- Wear sunscreen and hats

We have seen a much drier start to Spring this year and it only takes a small spark to ignite grass, shrubs, or litter and with the dry weather conditions that we have been experiencing, any fire can quickly get out of control.

Please remember:
- BBQs and open fires are NOT permitted in any Hounslow Parks or green spaces, as is the case for many Boroughs and local authorities.
- NO SWIMMING is allowed in any Hounslow Parks or green spaces.

If you see people deliberately starting fires, or if you come across a fire or even the smouldering remains of a fire, call 999 immediately - the embers can remain hot and burning for hours after the fire is out, and a large gust of wind could send sparks to nearby tinder at anytime causing it to reignite.

☀️🦮 This week the MET office have issued an amber heat warning and temperatures could reach 39 degrees, so please when taking your dog out this week think about the below! 🦮☀️

🐕 Although dogs need exercise, even when it’s hot, we recommend walking your dog in the early morning or late evening when it’s much cooler. It’s like us walking around with a thick winter coat all day!

🐩 Unlike humans, dogs cannot sweat through their skin so they rely on panting and releasing heat through their paw pads and nose.

🚗 Never leave your dog in a car, even for a moment - ‘not long’ is too long. The temperature in a car can more than double in an hour!

☀️ Signs of heatstroke in dogs include collapsing, excessive panting and dribbling. Worryingly, heat stroke in dogs can be fatal in as little as 15 minutes.

🐾 Dogs paw pads can burn on hot pavements. Do the tarmac test: if you can’t comfortably hold your hand on tarmac for 5 seconds, then it’s too hot for your dogs paws!

💧 Provide plenty of clean drinking water and bring water on your walk.

⛱ If you think your dog has heat stroke, move them inside/in to the shade and use cool (not freezing!) water to wet their fur or a cold wet towel laid over their body. Contact your vet immediately.

How about making some tasty ice cube treats with your dogs favourite food inside? 🧊🦴

Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine!

🙋‍♂️🙋‍♀️ Volunteers Week 2026 🙋‍♂️🙋‍♀️
Our rescue animal centre could not operate successfully without our incredibly dedicated and passionate volunteers.

From aged 13 we accept Volunteers to help out in our animal centre to get their first hands on experience in the sector. After an induction and ongoing training, our Volunteers can interact with more animals, assist with birthday parties at the weekends, and with our activities during the holidays - even Santa ropes them in to help out at Christmas!! Many of our young volunteers go on to have jobs in the industry, some even come back to Volunteer on their days off, and we've even recruited a few ourselves when we can! They make us gifts and paint us pictures, they are just awesome!
Volunteering is SUCH a valuable opportunity and mutually beneficial for those involved, do get in touch if you're interested.

A HUGE thank you to our young volunteers who help us keep our animal centre going, from the rangers and the animals!

🙋‍♂️🙋‍♀️ It's National Volunteers Week and today we'd like to say a huge THANK YOU to the Bedfont Lakes Conservation Volunteers 🙋‍♀️ 🙋‍♂️
Meeting every 3 weeks on a Saturday from 10am-3pm, they carry out crucial tasks and projects in the park, and are gaurdians of Chattern Hill Orchard at Bedfont Lakes Side site.

Some members have been attending for over a decade, showing the type of commitment that makes our lives as rangers easier, they knoe the site so well and have seen its transofrmation. They carry out vital habitat works on site like hibernaculum and stag beetle log piles, dead hedges and pond clearance, alongside routine park maintenance like weeding the new whips beds. They show dedication to keeping the entrance beds and beds outside the info centre tidy, and welcoming, and host a fabulous Annual Apple Day at South Side in the Autumn. Next session is Saturday 13th June, new members always welcome!!

Thank you for all you do for the park!!

Please be aware that we have taped off a section of trees behind the play area at Clockhouse Lane due to Oak Processionary Moth (OPM) caterpillars in 2 of the trees.
OPM are a non-native invasive species transported to the UK accidentally on a tree which was donated for the London Olympics. Since then they have spread dramatically, but efforts have and are being made to contain the spread as much as possible.
These nests will be treated and removed in due course to prevent the caterpillars from obliterating the oak leaves and causing long term damage to the trees.
If you see any OPM nests in the park, please do get in contact.
