🪖Every time your child is riding on something with wheels they should have a helmet on their head.

✅ A helmet could help protect your child from a serious head injury or even save their life if they fall or are hit by a car.

🚲 Statistics from the RoSPA found that in bicycle accidents where the casualty was wearing a helmet, fatal head injuries were reduced by 71%, serious injuries were reduced by 60% and overall head injuries were reduced by 48%.

👉 Please make sure you protect your child by putting a helmet on them regardless of where they are riding or how short the distance. Serious accidents can happen at any time, anywhere.

When fitting your child’s helmet ensure that:

👉The straps aren’t twisted and form a v shape under the child’s ear
👉The straps are tightened but allow you to put your fingers between the strap and the child’s chin
👉The helmet is tightened from the back to make sure it isn’t loose enough to wobble

❓Do you have a little one who has started or returned to school? Have you heard of ‘after school restraint collapse’? If not then read on…

You may wonder why your child’s teacher talks about how lovely they are during the school day but once they are with you it’s another story...

👉They may have meltdowns with temper tantrums or they may be withdrawn and refuse to engage with you for a while after school. This is actually really common behaviour in children under 12.

Parenting expert Sarah Ockwell-Smith says “They have spent all day at school holding in frustration, fear, anxiety, anger and other uncomfortable emotions, because they know that it is “naughty” to let them out at school. When they get home to you, however, things are entirely different.”

🫶 Experts say this shows that your children feel safe enough with you and loved enough to let out all of their bottled up emotions. So really it’s a sign of your great parenting!

How can we deal with it?

✅ Try not to ask lots of questions as soon as they come out of school.

🍎 Give them a snack – they’re likely to be tired and hungry so a bit of quiet time and some food is a good idea.

🏃‍♂️Once they’ve had a snack, exercise can really help them to blow off steam if they need to.

🥺 If they are upset or having a meltdown try to keep calm, acknowledge their feelings and let them know you are there for them.

👉 And remember, it’s totally normal and you are not alone.

⛑️ P A E D I A T R I C F I R S T A I D ⛑️

Is your certificate up for renewal? Come and join us at our next public venue class on Saturday 26th September in Newbury.

👍🏼Our courses are all compliant with the EYFS framework and regulated by OFSTED so perhaps for nanny’s, childminders, nursery & teaching staff.

Our 12hr PFA courses are offered in a blended learning format which means 6hrs online training & 6hrs face to face practical training. Which gives you more time to be where you’re needed the most. 👌🏼

We know that first aid is a serious subject but we also know that if we make it fun, we make it memorable!

Our classes are known for being informative and fun, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions and practice on the manikins as much as you feel you need to, so you walk away feeling confident and happy! Our reviews reflect that!😊

Book your space at one of our public venue classes or if there is a group of you drop me a message and we can come to you.

🔹UTIs are really common in children - about 1 in 10 girls and 1 in 30 boys will have one in childhood.

🔹A urinary tract infection (UTI) happens when germs get into urine and travel up the urinary tract, causing inflammation.

🔹They’re not usually serious, but they can make little ones feel really poorly. That’s why it’s so important to know the signs and symptoms and speak to a GP quickly.

❓ Would you know what to do if your child went unconscious, stopped breathing or had a serious burn?

⛑️ A study has revealed that 7 in 10 parents admitted that they did not know how to help their child in a medical emergency.

❗️The results also showed that 72% of parents across the UK wouldn’t know how to assist an unconscious child, administer CPR, or attend to burns and scalds.
Learning first aid for babies and children takes just 2-hours. The skills you’ll learn could literally mean the difference between life or death.

⛑️ We always hope you’ll never need to use what we teach you in our classes but it’s better to know it and not need it than to find yourself in an emergency situation without knowing what to do.

🏡 Classes are available in your home or at local venues. Perfect for pregnancy and babies are welcome.

💤If you’ve ever found yourself dozing off while feeding your little one at night, you’re not alone. Many parents choose to co-sleep, and when it’s done safely, it can make those long nights feel softer, calmer, and more connected. And crucially, it can mean you get more sleep!

Co-sleeping can:
💤Strengthen the bond between you and baby
💤Make night feeds easier and less exhausting
💤Help everyone get a little more rest

A few simple steps make co-sleeping safer:
👉Lie baby on their back
👉Keep pillows and duvets away
👉No pets or older siblings in the bed
👉Ensure baby can’t slip between the mattress wall or bedframe
👉Make sure baby can’t roll off the bed
👉Never leave a baby alone in an adult bed

❌ Don’t co-sleep if you or your partner have been drinking or smoking or if you’ve taken any medication that can make you drowsy

🛋️ And remember: never on the sofa or armchair. Always co-sleep on a prepared, safe sleep space.

🫶 Motherhood is often about listening to your instincts. If co-sleeping feels right for you, embrace it safely. You’ve got this.
