FORRES HERITAGE BUILDINGS GO PURPLE FOR END POLIO NOW đź’ś

From 23–26 October, Nelson’s Tower and the Tolbooth, will glow purple in support of End Polio Now and the global fight to eradicate polio.

The colour represents the dye used to mark children’s little fingers after they receive their polio vaccination drops during immunisation campaigns — a small mark that represents a huge step towards a polio-free world.

Led by Rotary International and supported locally by Forres Rotary, the campaign has helped bring the world closer than ever to eradicating this devastating disease.

By lighting up these historic landmarks, Forres is helping shine a light on a cause that affects children and communities around the world.

Keep an eye on Nelson's Tower from October 19, when the monument will be turned red, white and blue to mark Trafalgar Day which is celebrated on October 21.
Also, on Trafalgar Day, the Union Flag will be flying.
Trafalgar Day is celebrated on 21 October each year to commemorate the Battle of Trafalgar, one of the most significant naval battles in British history.
The battle took place on 21 October 1805, during the Napoleonic Wars, when the British Royal Navy, commanded by Admiral Lord Nelson, defeated the combined French and Spanish fleets off the coast of Cape Trafalgar, Spain.

The Forres Heritage Trust is turning the lights in the Tolbooth and Nelson's Tower green from this evening to mark, Liver Cancer Awareness Month. Liver cancer suffers from a chronic lack of awareness and the statistics reveal a sobering reality: only 13% of those diagnosed survive for five years or more, making it one of the least survivable forms of cancer in the UK.

The green colour is widely recognised as the symbol of liver cancer awareness, and by illuminating in green, it will send a powerful visual message of solidarity and support to those affected by liver cancer, their families, and the healthcare professionals working tirelessly to combat this disease.
