🚨 TRAINING EXERCISE – CAUDWELL MARINE, LOWESTOFT 🚨

Our team recently had the opportunity to carry out a multi-casualty training exercise at the Caudwell Marine site in Lowestoft.

The exercise was designed to put our skills to the test in a challenging scenario involving multiple casualties, requiring the team to assess and prioritise casualties, provide appropriate casualty care, and safely extricate casualties to a location where further care could be provided.

We were also joined by our colleagues from Gorleston Coastguard Rescue Team, as well as our Senior Coastal Operations Officer, making this a fantastic opportunity to work alongside other members of HM Coastguard and strengthen our joint response capabilities.

Exercises such as this allow us to practise in realistic environments, identify areas for improvement and, most importantly, ensure that we’re ready to respond effectively when members of the public need our assistance.

A huge thank you to Caudwell Marine for allowing us to use their site and supporting our training.

🤝 Teamwork. Training. Readiness.

🚨 Emergency Services Day (999 Day) 2026 🚨

Today we’re proud to recognise and celebrate the incredible people who work across our emergency services, keeping our communities safe 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. 👮‍♂️🚑🚒🚁🌊

From those responding to emergencies on the front line, to the people working behind the scenes, Emergency Services Day is an opportunity to say thank you to everyone who dedicates their time to helping others.

Here at Lowestoft Coastguard Rescue Team, we’re proud to work alongside our colleagues across the emergency services, often responding together to incidents where teamwork, communication and professionalism really matter.

Whether it’s on the coastline, at sea or within our local community, we’re always ready to respond when called upon. 🌊🛟

A huge thank you to our fellow emergency service colleagues, volunteers and all those who support them.

Stay safe, look out for one another and remember — if you need us, we’ll be there.

Congratulations to Oscar Byatt who has recently completed 5 years at Lowestoft.

Local Knowledge Walk - Pakefield Beach

This evening, members of the team carried out a local knowledge walk along the King Charles III path and Pakefield beach, observing recent changes to the coastline, including the build up of sandbanks.

Regular visits like this help us stay familiar with the ever changing coastal environment, ensuring we’re prepared to respond effectively when needed and can provide the best possible assistance to those enjoying our coastline.

Staying safe at the coast🌊

- Be aware that sandbanks, channels and beaches can quickly change with tides and weather.

- Keep well away from cliff edges and the base of cliffs, as erosion can make them unstable without warning.

- Check tide times before heading out and avoid getting cut off by the incoming tide.

- If you see someone in difficulty at the coast, call 999 and ask for the coastguard.

We hope everyone is enjoying the fantastic weather at the moment. Stay aware, stay prepared, and enjoy our beautiful coastline responsibly.

Whether you’re new to kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding, or heading out regularly, make sure you’re prepared before getting out on the water.

Before you go, check you have:

Personal flotation device – to help keep you afloat if you enter the water 🦺

Fully charged mobile phone – kept in a waterproof pouch so you can call for help 📱

Personal locator beacon – useful if you lose mobile signal 📍

Equipment labels – label your paddleboard, kayak and other watersports kit, so the Coastguard can check you’re safe if it’s found 🏷️

In an emergency at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Update for PLBs.

Update for PLBs.

New registration requirements for Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs) will come into force on 15 April 2026.

From this date, all current and new PLBs carried on board UK-flagged vessels, hovercraft and mechanically propelled watercraft must be registered. This requirement also applies when a PLB is discarded or changes ownership, and updated details must be provided.

These requirements bring PLBs in line with the registration rules that have applied to Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBs) for the past 26 years.

UK Distress & Security Beacon Registry Manager Linda Goulding said: “The benefit of registering your PLB is simple: it gives yourself – and everyone you’re with – a headstart to being rescued from an emergency.

“The registration process is free, takes just 15 minutes, and could make the difference between life and death. You can do it at no cost online in time for the deadline of 15 April.

“HM Coastguard will react to every beacon alert we receive. Registering your PLB helps us quickly work out when it’s a false alarm with no one in danger; or to focus our resources when people in real distress and need our help. Help us to help you.”
