What are microgreens? 🌱

We decided to grow some in the POTR studio to show you...

We used Helix, our self-watering pot, which made the whole process super easy. Just fill the reservoir and let the built-in wicking cord keep your microgreens hydrated as they grow.

These are red mustard microgreens, young edible plants harvested just after their first true leaves appear. Despite their size, they’re packed with vitamins, antioxidants and nutrients. Research shows that some microgreens can contain several times more of certain nutrients than their fully grown counterparts. Have you ever grown your own microgreens?

They’re easy to grow at home, take up very little space and can be ready to harvest in as little as 7–14 days.

Our POTR pots are made from recycled polypropylene, transforming waste plastic into lightweight, durable, self-watering planters.

Combined with our origami-inspired design, the material uses 95% less material than traditional ceramic or concrete planters. The flat-pack design also means less volume and weight during shipping, reducing transport emissions.

Sustainability shouldn’t just be about what a product is made from, but how it’s designed, made and delivered.

September, in a nutshell 🍂

It’s been a busy one! We’ve been getting stuck into the next stage of Helix, receiving material and manufacturing samples, filming plenty of content and getting everything ready for what’s next.

In between all that, we managed to squeeze in a few autumn hikes around Scotland, a lot of table tennis and a lifestyle shoot to bring Helix to life 📸

Things are starting to feel very real and we can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on!

Development Diary 28/09:

We’ve got another Helix update for you 👀🌱 This time, we’re taking a look at what’s happening behind the scenes with our packaging, pre-production and timelines as we get closer to manufacturing.

📦 Packaging development
We’ve been working on a packaging system that brings the whole Helix system together, while keeping it recognisably POTR. For the Helix pot, we’re exploring full-colour photography, while the accessories are taking a different approach. We’re developing a series of single-colour illustrations to communicate the shape and function of each product.

🚀 Where we’re at
We’re currently in the final stages of pre-production, working through the last details before we move into tooling and manufacturing. We’re expecting our final wall samples next week, which is very exciting!

🏭 What’s next
October will see us move into tooling and first batch production, followed by shipping from the end of October, assuming everything stays on track. We’re getting very close to the point where Helix moves from something we’ve been designing and refining for the last two years into something being produced at scale. We're very excited!
