From 1st of August, some changes to Scottish Housing legislation took effect.
These updates aim to provide stronger support for tenants and help housing providers deliver a better service around issues that matter to you.
The first updates are around increased domestic abuse protections, clarity over tenancy succession rights, and when housing providers will use electronic communications to be in contact with you.
In the text and graphics below we explain more about what each change means:
▪Domestic abuse protection: New housing law changes will give more support to tenants experiencing domestic abuse. In some circumstances, the person responsible for the abuse may be removed from the tenancy, helping the victim stay safely in their home instead of having to move.
▪Succession rights: When a tenant passes away, a spouse, partner, family member, or carer who has been living in the property may be eligible to succeed to the tenancy. The qualifying period for succession is changing from 12 months' residence to 6 months' residence
▪Electronic communication: f you've agreed to receive information electronically, we may send formal notices, such as rent increase notices and other tenancy-related correspondence, by email. Paper communications will still be available on request.
You don’t need to take any action in response to these changes, but you can read more about all of them over on our website: https://westscot.co.uk/important-changes-to-housing-law.../
