Great work by the Disc Golf enthusiasts who run it in Riverside Park

🥏 DID YOU KNOW GLENROTHES HAS THE THIRD BEST DISC GOLF COURSE IN SCOTLAND? 🥏

We knew Riverside Park had a pretty good disc golf course...

But THIRD BEST IN SCOTLAND?!👀

According to the latest UDisc rankings, Riverside Park (Team Glen) is currently sitting at #3 in Scotland for 2026

And there's actually a great Glenrothes story behind those baskets.

This wasn't simply a case of someone deciding to put a few targets around Riverside Park.

Team Glen were the driving force behind getting disc golf established here.

The project was around two years in the making, with Team Glen working away behind the scenes and maintaining constant communication with Fife Council about the possibility of creating a course that wasn't just fun for beginners, but could also provide a proper competitive challenge.

When funding became available, Team Glen got the opportunity to work with Fife Council and Gilmartins to turn that idea into reality.

The result?

An 18-hole course, with competition-standard Latitude 64 baskets and proper tee pads, incorporated into the spectacular Riverside Park landscape.

And Team Glen's involvement didn't stop once the baskets went in.

The course is now a regular venue for leagues and competitive events, with players travelling to Glenrothes to take it on. There is even a smaller nine-hole layout for children and beginners, helping introduce the next generation to the sport.

Fife Council's huge Riverside Park regeneration project provided the wider investment and infrastructure, transforming the park into a major community and visitor destination. The disc golf course became one of the new attractions alongside the playpark, pump track, cycling facilities and improved paths.

But there's something quite satisfying about this particular part of the story.

A local group saw an opportunity.

They kept pushing the idea.

They worked with the council.

Gilmartins helped turn the plans into something physical.

And now, just a relatively short time later, Glenrothes has a disc golf course that is being ranked among the best in the whole of Scotland.🥉

That's a pretty good example of what can happen when local enthusiasm meets investment and partnership.

So next time you're walking through Riverside Park and see someone launching a plastic disc through the trees...

They're not just throwing a Frisbee. 😂

They're playing on the THIRD BEST DISC GOLF COURSE IN SCOTLAND.

🦛 HIPPO OF THE WEEK! 🦛

GOOD MORNING, MONDAY HAS ARRIVED… AND WE’VE GOT A BIG-MOUTHED FRIEND TO HELP US START THE WEEK! 😂

Meet this week’s Hippo of the Week — one of the fantastic new additions to the Savannah-inspired playground at Riverside Park. 🌳🦛

With its giant mouth, wooden stripes and slide straight out the side, this is definitely one hippo that knows how to make an entrance! 😆

And it’s another great reason to head down to Riverside Park and discover some of the new features for yourself.

The Friends of Riverside Park team were in the park on Saturday 29th August with our fun BUG HUNT and BUG HOTEL making event. As you can see, the children (and some parents) had an entertaining and educational time searching for the bugs (and bringing back some to let us see). The bug hotel making went well with many kids proudly taking theirs home to hang in their gardens. A small treat was given to every child. The FORP team were delighted to see so many children enjoying our event.

FORP volunteers enjoyed escorting staff and pupils from the John Fergus School on a litter pick/explore the park today. We were happy that the area we walked had very little litter (credit to the Fife Council litter pickers). However the children and staff picked up even the smallest litter that may have escaped the eye of the professionals.
The kids were happy to spot some of the magical creatures in The Enchanted Garden area of the park then spent some time having fun in the nearby play-park.
We are keen to have the school again in the park on their DUCK RACE day on September 26th. Sponsor a duck (plastic - not real) to race down the Lothrie Burn and help support this school.

At the town centre end of the park, FORP members Peter and David scraped the old glue off the notice board and bolted on the new updated map with information.
That is the final notice board updated.
It is very useful with QR links to the FORP walk’s leaflet, contact details for the council park team and access to the full rules of the park.
FORP are still looking for anyone who likes a bit of peaceful work outdoors to help us look after the community orchard in the park.
