🚨🚨A40 Over Bridge – Work Update From Highways England 🚧
Work to refurbish Over Bridge continues to make good progress. Our teams have been removing the road surface and waterproofing layers from the eastbound bridge deck to expose the concrete beneath and begin essential repair work. At the same time, specialist contractors working from the underslung scaffold are carrying out repairs to areas of deteriorated concrete on the underside of the bridge.
As these repairs progress, you may notice fewer visible activities taking place on top of the bridge. This is a normal part of the process. Concrete repairs must be completed in carefully controlled stages, including curing periods, to ensure they achieve the required strength and durability. These repairs are being carried out in tent-like working areas that control the dust and debris (picture below).

While progress may not always be obvious from the road, work is continuing across the bridge as we deliver a safe and long-lasting refurbishment. We know traffic conditions remain challenging while these essential repairs are carried out, and we appreciate everyone's patience and support.

We’d also like to share with you an informative interview one of our Structures Engineers, Terry, did with BBC Radio Gloucestershire on-site. You can hear pieces from the interview at: BBC Radio Gloucestershire on 21 August @ 1hr 06, 1hr 37, and 2hr 06 into the show.

With schools returning in the coming weeks, we expect traffic levels to increase, particularly during the first couple of weeks as road users adapt to the current traffic management arrangements. We will continue to monitor conditions closely and work with partners to identify opportunities to improve traffic flow where practical.
Our full progress report will be issued in September recapping August in more detail.
