🚨🚨A40 Over Bridge – Work Update From Highways England 🚧

Work to refurbish Over Bridge continues to make good progress. Our teams have been removing the road surface and waterproofing layers from the eastbound bridge deck to expose the concrete beneath and begin essential repair work. At the same time, specialist contractors working from the underslung scaffold are carrying out repairs to areas of deteriorated concrete on the underside of the bridge.

As these repairs progress, you may notice fewer visible activities taking place on top of the bridge. This is a normal part of the process. Concrete repairs must be completed in carefully controlled stages, including curing periods, to ensure they achieve the required strength and durability. These repairs are being carried out in tent-like working areas that control the dust and debris (picture below).

Broken out concrete repair area under the bridge in the pictures .

While progress may not always be obvious from the road, work is continuing across the bridge as we deliver a safe and long-lasting refurbishment. We know traffic conditions remain challenging while these essential repairs are carried out, and we appreciate everyone's patience and support.

We’d also like to share with you an informative interview one of our Structures Engineers, Terry, did with BBC Radio Gloucestershire on-site. You can hear pieces from the interview at: BBC Radio Gloucestershire on 21 August @ 1hr 06, 1hr 37, and 2hr 06 into the show.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m00301qp

With schools returning in the coming weeks, we expect traffic levels to increase, particularly during the first couple of weeks as road users adapt to the current traffic management arrangements. We will continue to monitor conditions closely and work with partners to identify opportunities to improve traffic flow where practical.

Our full progress report will be issued in September recapping August in more detail.

Sorry to the members who were going to come out but then I cancelled/uncancelled due to the weather ☔☔🫪🫪 I am no Michael Fish for sure!

Lots of supporters in Mitcheldean and some touching thanks from people who have never seen a Reform member at their door. 📪

Any members want to come out with us please message me. We need more people knocking in doors and delivering leaflets so our supporters know we are there. Some people don't know about the Local Government Reorganisation and the fact that The Forest of Dean District Council will.no longer exist soon. ⌛🚫

⛔️ ⚠️ Gloucestershire County Council has extended the road closure on the B4234 Forest Road between Whitecroft and Lydney to allow additional essential ground stabilisation works to be completed. ⛔️ ⚠️

The closure is now expected to remain in place until summer ☀️ 2027, subject to ground conditions and construction progress.

While repair works at the original landslip site have been completed ahead of schedule, further investigations identified two additional areas of significant and accelerated ground movement that require stabilisation before the road can safely reopen. 🛣️

More information is available on the project webpage: Forest Road, Lydney. 🌲

UPDATED WITH VIDEO 📷!

👋 Hello all!

We did a walkabout at The Keelings a few weeks ago and reported the grass issues.

I went to meet after with the new CEO of 2Rivers and he arranged for me to meet some of the new maintenance managers here.

👥 Residents Group. A couple of local residents and 2Rs are looking at facilitating setting one up! But they need more people from The Keelings! 🏠

VERY LITTLE will happen if there are no residents groups or associations, as they can be the voice for the local area and follow things through.

How to join: Please email me at [email protected] if you are interested. 📧

Next steps: I will pass your details to the Community Engagement Team, who will be in touch. 👥

Grass Cutting & Maintenance: Different grassy areas are cut at different rates depending on who owns the houses nearby.

A residents association could relook at this and try to get a consensus on what gets cut and when. 🗓️The goal is to cut the areas people use more frequently and scale back on less-used areas.

Some areas need barriers removed so mowers can get in, and 2Rs are currently looking into this.

In the longer term, an association could also campaign for things like new play areas on the grass! 🛝

Road Surface RepairsI have asked GCC Highways to improve the road surface with large-scale patching works. 🚧 Believe it or not, the road is not considered a high enough priority because there are so many worse roads in the County!

🤦‍♂️How you can help: Members of the public can request that this gets done. The more requests they receive, the better our chances! 📈 PLEASE REPORT!

What to do: Please fill out the form, choose the "Highways & Infrastructure Scheme/Policy" option, and request a resurface. 📋https://forms.gloucestershire.gov.uk/HighwaysContactForm

Our next face to face meeting is: Tuesday 1st September 🗓️Time: 7:00 PM ⏰Location: The Golden Lion 🦁All welcome! See you there!
