🏘️ Local government in Lancashire is changing.

Across the county, there are currently 15 councils – including the County Council, two unitary councils and 12 district councils. The Government has asked Lancashire to submit proposals for change which will replace existing councils with fewer, unitary authorities.

The government is now consulting on Lancashire’s proposals.

Last week, Barnacre-with-Bonds Parish Council, with the help of St Mary & St Michael’s Catholic Primary School’s Gardening Club, planted over 200 Tete et Tete daffodils and 50 purple crocuses. Dual hatted Cllr Webster enjoyed planting the daffodils on the land at Castle Lane with the very enthusiastic school children. This is the 2nd time the Parish Council have joined forces with the school and planted bulbs in this area.

We are very much looking forward to spring and thank Mr Percy and the gardening club for helping planting so many bulbs!

Update from Barnacre with Bonds Parish Council with regards to the speeding at the entrance of the Corn Mill Nursing Home.

A speed report was submitted to the police as discussed at the last meeting; the report
highlights the dangerous speed of cars at the entrance/exit to the footpath 100. Concerns
raised by residents for the safety of those trying to cross the road. Report received in
response: -
Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. As a result of your concern,
speed count data was obtained and analysed and currently, the vast majority of
motorists are complying with the speed limit. Policing resource must be directed
where threat and risk are most prevalent, so at this time, the Police are unable to
perform monitoring at this location. If you would like to raise awareness of speed
in your area, you may wish to use the Speed Toolkit. Further information on the
Toolkit can be found using the tab at the top of the page. Should you wish to raise
a request for traffic calming/engineering measures please contact Lancashire
County Council directly as this is outside our remit. A link to the Lancashire
County Council website is on the speed concern page.

A further letter has been sent to LCC Highways with the concerns raised and an
assessment of the sites has been requested at the Cornmill nursing home and Byerworth Lane North.

A report has been sent to Lancashire report it regarding the overgrown hedges on Dimples
Lane, requested hedge cutting service.

Calder Vale Road Closure Information

We have received an apology for the situation that occurred yesterday (Sunday 19th October) in Calder Vale from County Councillor James Tomlinson. LCC were given no notification of the road closure & neither was the Parish Council. Cllr Tomlinson explained the issue they are having is that the road repairs have been subcontracted to another firm and not LCC teams & there does seem to be an issue with communicating road closures. Cllr Tomlinson spoke with John Clemson, the Cabinet Lead for Highways last night and asked him to raise the incident at Calder Vale during a meeting today at County Hall.

19/10/2025

We have been made aware this morning Sunday 19th October of the road closure at Calder Vale. Cllr Tony Fennell and Cllr Elizabeth Webster visited the road closure and spoke with a representative at the road closure point. They were given details of the work permit and were advised the road would reopen at 1.30pm.

To our knowledge we, along with residents were not notified about this road closure. We will be raising the lack of warning and notification with our Lancashire County Councillor, Cllr James Tomlinson.
