Always check tide times (and weather) before heading to the coast 🌊

Tides follow a predictable pattern, but can change quickly, and it’s easy to get cut off if you haven’t planned ahead.

Rapidly rising seas can trap you in bays, coves or on sandbars, often with little or no warning and no easy escape route.

Tides don't always follow straight lines and can sneak up around and behind you too.

In an emergency at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

🌊🚨 Operational Readiness Check... complete! (And we're pleased to report that the only casualties were a few bruised egos and some tired legs.)

This week, Gorleston Coastguard Rescue Team took part in our Operational Readiness Check (ORC). These assessments put our skills, equipment and teamwork to the test, helping ensure we're always ready to respond when the call comes, whatever the weather and whatever the challenge.

💡 Fun rescue fact: A Coastguard Rescue Team member can carry up to 15kg of specialist equipment during a rescue, often across sand, shingle, mud, cliffs or rough terrain. It's basically a gym session... but with a much better view!

While we're busy training, we'd much rather see you enjoying the coastline safely than meeting us on an emergency call-out.

✅ Tell someone where you're going

Recently our Gorleston team paid a visit to the Gorleston RNLI station to check out their brand-new vessel! 🚤

We always enjoy spending time with our colleagues of the sea – there’s nothing better than catching up with the people who share the same waters and the same commitment to keeping people safe.
We not only got a great look at the new boat, but also learned more about the ins and outs of launching when a shout comes in. Fascinating stuff and a brilliant reminder of the teamwork that goes on behind every rescue.

Huge thanks to the RNLI crew for the warm welcome and the insight – always a pleasure working alongside you! 🌊

Mixing alcohol with boating can be dangerous! Wear life jackets when getting on and off boats.
If you see someone I. Danger near or in the water call 999 and ask for the coastguard.

Gorleston Coastguard rescue team will be at the Gorleston Cliff Top Festival again this year (1st & 2nd Aug). We had a great time last year and are looking forward another fantastic weekend this year.
