You may have read that Crescent Garden won a green flag accolade again this year.
The green team work hard all year round to maintain the garden, planting, cutting back, w**ding, sweeping, pruning and cleaning so everyone can enjoy strolling through, having a picnic or sitting enjoying the peace, listening to the gentle trickle of the fountain or bird song.
What people might not realise is that the cost of all tools, fountain electricity, plants, seeds, insurance, among other expense are self funded through events, FOCG membership fees and donations.
We would like to thank our Friends of Crescent Garden members and everyone who attends and supports our events.
We will be raising our flag later this month.
Congratulations to Stanley Park who also won a green flag this year.

The green team and the fountain specialist have been busy this sunny morning.
The fountain needed attention again and whilst from the video you can see and hear it running this is only a temporary fix until we have further electrical repairs. All funded by membership of Friends of Crescent Garden and fund raising through our events.
Aside from this the team have been sweeping, pruning, w**ding and cutting bay shoots.

You may be wondering what the green team did last week.
We took a well earned break together with the FOCG committee by visiting someone else's garden, Durmast House, located in Burley.
There is historical interest as the owner has been following the original Gertrude Jekyll plans to restore the garden as it was designed in 1907.

Mad dogs and green team members go out in the midday sun.
Yes some of us did garden this morning.
We kept refreshed with jugs of iced water, breaks under the tree, keeping in the shade as much as possible, sun protection and hats.
We trimmed the overhanging shrubs along terrace walk and swept, cut those pesky bay shoots, trimmed the Punica granatum (pomegranate) dead headed roses and general w**ding.
As Gosport is in the news for the record for the hottest ever June day in the UK has been provisionally broken, with temperatures soaring to 36.1C in Gosport, Hampshire, we are indeed mad !

Thank you to everyone who attended 'Pimms in the Park' on Saturday. All profits are reinvested in the ongoing maintenance of Crescent Garden. Therefore not only have you had an enjoyable evening you have also contributed to the fund needed for the upkeep of the garden for the community to enjoy.

Missed the 2026 rose season at Mottisfont ?

Whilst we cannot compete with the spectacular national collection of 400 plus varieties of roses pre 1900 at Mottisfont, we do however have a small collection of rose varieties that were introduced to England before 1850. They are looking particularly good at the moment and most are repeat flowering.

It is all about the box and fountain today.

We had a really busy but productive morning.
You can see from the photos the effort required to clean the fountain.
The box hedge has been sprayed to keep control of the box moth, if you saw our protective masks and goggles you may have mistaken as for a minion, of course we do live to serve the garden.
The remainder of the hedge has been cut so the team have been busy clearing the trimmings from the top and the area around the hedge.
On top of all that we have been clearing bind w**d, w**ding, pruning shrubs, deadheading roses and clearing fallen leaves.

Today's Green Team Activity

We had a walking group visit today for a pre-arranged history/botanical talk and tour.
Plenty of shrubs to cut back, roses to deadhead.
Always lots of leaves to sweep up along Terrace Walk.
We needed Big Bertha to move the heavy, voluminous bag of needles that had dropped.
Before you ask Big Bertha is the large green wheelbarrow not one of the hardworking green team.
