🪦 Sorry for the long break!! I felt I had run out of steam in Grassington as I couldn't seem to convince people that Coffin Club was nothing to be scared of, then I have had a busy summer of weddings so here we are!! 🥰

Next time around ( coming soon ) will be more informal, really just chats around death, dying and funerals.

See below ⬇️

What is Coffin Club ❓

Not a cult (although we do love a bit of love bombing!). Not a knitting circle, and definitely not morbid (have you met me?!).

We’re here to make talking about death normal (because, spoiler alert: we’re all going there).

Coffin Club is about choice.
💡 Choice in how you say goodbye.
💡 Choice in where your money goes.
💡 Choice in how you’re remembered.

It started because funerals felt too same-y and people didn’t even know what was possible.

👉 Want to know more? Stick around. There’ll be plenty more myth-busting, story-sharing and resources coming your way.

We are all going to die! So, getting your ducks in a row before your time comes is best for you and for those who care about you.

🎩 We're not going to lie, here at CC HQ we can be a bit celebrant-centric (because we love celebrants and we are celebrants!) but, we also know what a vital role funeral directors can play in making sure the perfect farewelling comes together 👤⚰️"
Funeral directors are there to support you with the logistics of the event, the care of your loved one, transportation and paperwork. They know exactly what needs to happen and when and can give you the freedom to be present and fully engaged.
Funeral directors can give as much or as little help as you require and a good FD really is worth their weight in gold in making a difficult event so much less stressful. ❤️🤝
From booking the church or crem (or other venue) to coordinating with the celebrant or clergy, florists, and cemeteries, they handle all the logistical details with finesse. 📋✨
Navigating the sea of paperwork involved in a funeral is no small feat. Funeral directors ensure all documents are in order, and organised in the right order. Taking this headache away from you. 📝🗂️
Caring for your dead is at the heart of what an FD does. With utmost care and professionalism, they oversee the washing and dressing of your dead person. A good FD should also allow or even encourage you to help with this, if that's something you would like. 👩‍⚕️💄
Financial Guidance: Funeral directors are there to guide you through the costs and financial aspects of a funeral, helping you make informed decisions. 💰🤑
Funeral Ceremonies: Whether it's a religious service, a celebration of life, or something entirely unique, they'll ensure the ceremony runs smoothly, allowing you to focus on your dead person and your emotions. A good FD should allow you the scope to make this as personal as possible by offering different venue choices, alternative vehicles etc 🕊️🎈
Community - We know lots of wonderful FDs whose support doesn't end with the service or who give additional value to their communities through education and outreach. We heart this approach. 🌻📞

Did You Know?

The tradition of playing loud music at an Irish wake dates back centuries. It was believed that the music would ward off evil spirits, protecting the deceased on their journey to the afterlife. The wake also served as a vigil, allowing family and friends to watch over the deceased, ensuring they had truly died before burial. This practice highlights the deep cultural significance of wakes in honouring the dead and providing comfort to the living.

What can Coffin Club do for you?

We aim to end the taboo of discussing death.

We provide you with a ‘wishlist’ which is a live document, which you can keep working on. This will help your family and friends know your choices come the time of your death, give you good topics to start discussions with and we can guarantee there will be things you haven't even thought of!

We aim to educate you on all your options for your end of life celebrations including burial, cremation and the other options not yet widely available yet in the UK such as Water Cremation and Human Composting (something we are very passionate about!)

We invite guest speakers to come along too – these include

🔸️Bequeathal manager - Body Donation @ Dundee 🔸️University
🔸️Natural Burial Ground Manager @ Cairnbrae
🔸️Funeral Director @ Gibson of Tayport
🔸️Celebrant @ Angela Maughan Ceremonies
🔸️Soul Midwife
🔸️Mortuary Manager/Anatomical Pathology Technician Hospital
🔸️Bereavement Support Service @ Roxburghe House
🔸️Service Manager @ Funeral Link (funeral poverty advice)
🔸️Pushing up the Daisies (support and guidance to keep deceased at home after death).

We are a registered Scottish Charity so we fundraise to allow these sessions to run to the public free of charge!

⚰️ It’s funeral Friday ⚰️
What’s your funeral song? Here’s one of mine, and I actually can’t believe this Oasis banger has been with us for 30 years!!! That makes me feel ancient.🙈
Get your funeral wish list down on paper then others doesn’t have to guess your wishes - after all, you don’t want to end up with Blur when you wanted Oasis 😂😂😂😂
