Hi everyone,

We have been to site together this afternoon to form a plan of action, and the video below explains our thoughts and approach.

All 3 of us will be attending the hearing on Tuesday 28th and we will be objecting to this application.

We will also be holding a community meeting in the side room at the Greetland Community Centre on Thursday, 23rd July at 7:00pm. The meeting is open to all residents, and everyone is welcome to attend.

The fight is on Greetland!

We aren’t new to this, we have been campaigning alongside the Greetland Pressure Group for over 6 years. Greetland is our home and we will do everything to protect it.

The Saddleworth Road site will be going to the planning committee on 28th July at 3pm.

What a great day! 😅☀️

It's been non-stop from start to finish.

We were out early this morning supporting GRO with their new bench installation, before heading off to a quick planning meeting.

After that, we did our best to move as many cars as possible so the street cleaners could get through, followed by an afternoon clearing up grass cuttings. We filled two bulk bags from around Greetland Park after the council's grass cutting.

All of that was fitted in around many emails, arranging meetings and co-ordinating projects!

📣 A big shout out to the grass cutting team – they've done a good job and have a huge workload to deal with 👏🏻

A good, productive day all round. Thanks to everyone who stopped for a chat, it's always great to catch up with residents and hear what's on your mind.

🚨 Good news for Greetland Ward! 🚨

Towards the end of last year, the opening days at Calderdale's Household Waste & Recycling Centres were reduced following a Liberal Democrat proposal, with the decision implemented by Labour.

It's great to see them returning to 7-day opening by the end of the year.

A welcome change that will make it easier and more convenient for residents across Greetland Ward. 👏

👋🏻 A quick catch-up from your Greetland Ward Cllrs!

We hope everyone has enjoyed the sunshine and, of course, celebrating England's win! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

We've been in contact with residents on a wide range of issues across the ward, so we thought we'd share a quick update on what we've been working on.

• We've been speaking with Kiely Bros on behalf of residents about concerns over the road surface re-dressing in and around Greetland and are arranging site visits with residents to discuss the issues firsthand.

• Attended a Planning Committee meeting and visited the sites beforehand, ensuring we're fully informed before decisions are made.

• We've been responding to lots of emails and enquiries from residents. Recent issues have included overgrown vegetation, parking concerns, requests for more litter bins in West Vale, planning matters, flags and a variety of other local issues.

• It was great to join Greetland Residents Organisation (GRO) for their community litter pick, helping to tidy Rochdale Road and the surrounding streets leading to the Community Centre. We also attended the GRO Committee meeting to hear more about their fantastic work and offer our continued support. A huge thank you to everyone who volunteers their time to make our community a cleaner place.

• Arrangements for our Ward Forum are nearly complete, we're just waiting for final confirmation before we can share the details.

• We’ve been chasing up Ward Forum grant applications for local groups

• Continuing discussions with the Environment Agency regarding the leaking drain at Feather Bed Lane

• Liaison with the Woodlands Department on the broken bridge in North Dean Wood, repairs are scheduled for next week.

• There are also a number of ongoing cases we're continuing to work on. They can't be shared publicly, but please be assured they're receiving our attention.

We always do our best to keep on top of social media, but comments and messages can sometimes get buried or missed.

🗓️ Sunday Catch-Up from your Greetland Ward Councillors

We hope you're all having a lovely Sunday 😊

It's certainly been a busy week for us, with plenty happening both out and about in the ward and behind the scenes.

Here's a snapshot of what we've been working on:-

* Cleared the snicket between Moorlands and Highfield.

* Attended meetings at the Town Hall.

* Continued dealing with planning and licensing enquiries.

* Worked on ongoing resident cases. One is hopefully nearing a conclusion, depending on partner agencies, while another is more complex and will take some time. We appreciate your understanding of the confidentiality that comes with our role that means we can't discuss individual cases.

* Continued liaisons with Waste & Recycling and Community First regarding the bins on Spring Lane, New Road and Glenfield. We're positive this will be solved tomorrow morning 🙏🏻

* Liaised with the Household Waste Recycling Centre on behalf of residents.

* Continued looking at overgrown areas across the ward and how we can get them tidied up.

* Liaised with licensing following a request from a local landlord regarding late opening for the England match.

* Had a really positive meeting with residents about an idea which, if it comes off, could be a real boost for our local heritage. It's early days, but it's an exciting project to be involved in.

* The rubbish is cleared from the top of Middle Dean Street - we are looking at a longer-term solution.

* Reported several blocked surface water drains.

* Escalated the clearance of two bridleways to a Cabinet Member.

* Continued pursuing concerns about pollution in Black Brook. We've seen the photographic evidence provided by residents and are taking the matter very seriously. As part of our own checks, we walked around two miles this week of the brook and are awaiting a visit from the Environment Agency. While this doesn't appear to be a constant issue and may only happen from time to time, it shouldn't be happening at all. We'll continue to push for answers and keep residents updated.

* Working on refreshing the white road markings around West Vale. If we haven't heard anything by the week beginning 13 July, we'll be chasing that up too.

Over the next couple of days, we'll also be sharing some useful information on our page about how to report common issues. We hope it'll be a handy guide for residents and help get problems to the right place as quickly as possible.

We can't promise an instant fix to every problem, but we can promise that we'll keep listening, keep chasing things up and keep working hard for our ward.

🚨REFORM CALLS A HALT TO ROADWORKS HARMING BRIGHOUSE

We're taking a fresh approach to highways investment to make sure every pound delivers the best possible outcome for our communities.

🚧Brighouse Town Centre Works.

We have been inundated with messages from business owners, highlighting the impact the works are having on their businesses, they have reported takings are down significantly. Local people are travelling away from Brighouse to do their shopping due to the loss of parking spaces. Again cycle lanes, for the few, seem to have been the priority for the Labour administration, regardless of the cost to hardworking business owners and the local residents.

❗️Phase Two of the Brighouse town centre works has been paused while we develop a redesigned scheme that works better for business owners, shoppers and the town as a whole. The plans inherited from the previous administration did not fully maximise the potential of the investment. Rather than press ahead regardless, we're taking the time to get it right.
Phase One is nearing completion, and we will continue to monitor how it performs. If we believe improvements are needed, we won't hesitate to review those works as well. 👂 We are listening.

We're also investing in the basics that matter to residents.

🛣️Additional funding has been secured to improve the condition of our roads, and we've already brought forward patching works that were originally scheduled for later this year. This means roads are being repaired now, ahead of future resurfacing programmes.

💷To reduce costs and improve efficiency, we've brought some services back in-house, including basic traffic management. This will save taxpayers' money, and we're actively reviewing other services that could be delivered more efficiently in the future.

🚂We've also completed additional drainage works beneath the railway bridge in West Vale to help tackle the persistent flooding issues experienced in the area.

🛣️Finally, we're reviewing other major highways schemes to ensure they provide the best value for money before they move forward. We want to invest wisely, deliver practical improvements, and ensure our communities see real benefits from every project.
There is much more to come, and we will continue to keep residents updated as further announcements are made.

Before and after!

We have been out to clear the ginnel between Moorlands Road and Highfield Avenue.

This well-used route, especially during the school run, had become overgrown and difficult to use. It's now much clearer, making it safer and easier for everyone walking through.

Ward Councillors' Weekly Catch-Up 🏡

It's been another busy week working across the ward, supporting residents and following up on local issues.

This week we've:

✅ Escalated concerns about the rubbish at the top of Middle Dean Street, which is now being looked into.
✅ Reported a water leak on Saddleworth Road, near Gate Head Lane, to Yorkshire Water.
✅ Attended the Overview and Scrutiny Committee meeting at the Town Hall.
✅ Met with residents in Norland regarding planning applications.
✅ Continued supporting a resident in Hullenedge with renewing a planning application.
✅ Attended meetings regarding the sewage leak at Featherbed - reported to Yorkshire Water.
✅ Meeting at Little London to check the overgrown vegetation on the path.
✅ Meeting with Greetland Pressure Group regarding the Saddleworth rd outline planning application.
✅ Followed up on issues at Stoney Royd Cemetery on behalf of the Mayor.
✅ Continued looking into requests for additional parking restrictions, including yellow lines where residents have raised safety concerns.
✅ Cleared litter and Himalayan balsam from Greetland Cricket Club.
✅ Continued chasing the Environment Agency regarding Black Brook following reports and photographs from residents.

🗑️ One issue that has taken up a significant amount of time this week has been bins not being emptied due to road closures. We've spent a lot of time speaking with Waste & Recycling and Customer First to try to get this resolved. Unfortunately, progress has been slow, and we know this is frustrating for affected residents. We will continue pressing for this to be resolved.

🇬🇧 Attended the Armed Forces Day celebrations – what a brilliant afternoon! It was an honour to show our support and see such a fantastic turnout in recognition of those who have served and continue to serve.
