September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Blood Cancer Awareness Month. When a child or young person is diagnosed with cancer or a blood cancer, the impact is felt by the whole family. We want to hear from unpaid carers and families across Surrey.

Whether you are an adult unpaid carer supporting a child, partner, family member or friend, or a young carer supporting a brother, sister, parent or another family member, we want to know if you are aware of the help and support available to you.
- Do you know where to go for help and support?
- Do you know what support is available for unpaid adult carers?
- Do you know what support is available for brothers and sisters?
- What support has made a difference — and what is still missing?

Does your child help to care for, support or worry about their sibling with cancer? If so, they may be a young carer - a child or young person under 18 who provides practical or emotional support to someone in their family. This can include helping to care for a brother or sister with a serious illness, taking on extra responsibilities at home or providing emotional support.

Please let us know your experiences of getting support. You can:

“What motivated me to quit was the feeling of my lungs getting worse, I wanted them to feel normal again, now they are on the way to it.”

This is just one of the experiences we have heard from people about their thoughts on stopping smoking.

Did you know that after just 3 days of being smoke free, many people have more energy and breathing feels easier?

Did you know there is free help out there to support you to stop?

This is the final month of our survey being open, so please share your thoughts about smoking, whether you are considering stopping smoking or not, and the barriers to stopping. We also provide information in our survey about the free support that is available. Thank you to everyone who has already completed it or shared their views already.

Please complete our survey: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/LumStoppingSmoking2025-26/

Are you an unpaid carer? (Do you look after a friend or family member who couldn’t manage without your help?)
What’s your experience of GP practices (relating to your caring role)?
Do you feel supported?
What could be better?

We would like to hear your experiences.

Our Healthwatch Surrey and Giving Carers a Voice services champion the voice of local carers to share, improve and get the best from NHS health and social care services.

We will be going out to speak to people, but you can also take part in our online survey, helping us to hear the experiences of as many people as possible.

Are you planning a holiday with family over the summer?
Would you like your holiday to be smoke free?

We know that one of the key reasons people want to stop smoking is considering others, for example wanting to be smoke free around children, wanting to set an example or having pressure from family to stop.

We would like to know your thoughts about smoking, whether you are considering stopping smoking or not, and your barriers to stopping.

Did you also know there is free support to stop? You can find out about help to quit by doing our survey

It's Social Wellness Month 💙
If you're an unpaid carer, we want to hear from you.
Caring can be rewarding, but it can also mean loneliness, isolation, and putting your own social life on hold. Your experiences matter.
How has caring affected your social wellbeing? What would help you feel more connected and supported?

We’d love to hear from you. Together, we can raise awareness and help shape better support for unpaid carers.
