As England play their first World Cup fixture, match days can bring a mix of emotions β€” from excitement and celebration to frustration and disappointment.

For some people, this can increase tension at home. While most people enjoy the game safely, factors such as alcohol use, gambling outcomes and heightened emotions can increase risk in some households. Abuse is never acceptable, and responsibility always lies with the person choosing to use abusive behaviour.

If you are worried about your safety, or about someone else, support is available.

You are not alone
You deserve to feel safe
You can speak to someone in confidence at any time.

To find support in Shropshire visit: https://orlo.uk/UA9Eg
Remember in an emergency, call 999, if you can’t speak press 55 for the silent solution.

If you’re concerned about someone: check in when it is safe to do so, listen without judgement, encourage them to seek support. Small actions can make a big difference. Enjoy the match, look out for one another, and help keep our communities safe. Find out more here: https://orlo.uk/Y1zsF

The Mayor of Oswestry, Cllr Jonathan Upton, was overjoyed to join the Oswestry & Cambrian Rotary Club event at the Guildhall, celebrating the activities of clubs and organisations that have received funding from Rotary's Mary Hignett Fund over the past year.

The Mayor said: "It was such a pleasure to be invited to the celebrations and to hear more about what the various groups do. Whether it be to support the arts, teach valuable life skills or enhance the beauty of our town, each group offers a different service and helps people along the way. In doing so, they help make Oswestry a vibrant and supportive community."

The Mayor also had the great pleasure of officially opening The Nook Studio on Weston Lane – a new creative space that offers something for everyone. He was particularly happy to hear about the PALETTE project – People of All Levels Engaging Together Through Expression – which encourages participation, creativity and inclusivity, reminding us all that art is for everyone, regardless of experience.
