Everybody loves a saving!

Getting the right fire alarm system isn’t about simply choosing the most expensive option. It’s about installing the most appropriate system for the building, the risk and the required specification.

At SAFE Fire & Security, we look at what is actually required to keep your premises safe and compliant, while avoiding unnecessary costs wherever possible.

The right advice can help you save money without compromising on fire safety or compliance.

If you’re reviewing, upgrading or replacing a fire alarm system, speak to us before making the investment.

There are some phone calls that remind you exactly why our industry matters.

Recently, a business owner found our number on Google and called us in a panic.

A Fire Risk Assessor from West Midlands Fire Service had arrived at their premises following fire safety concerns. During the visit, the owner was asked to provide evidence that key fire safety measures were in place.

The problem was they couldn’t.

There were no maintenance records to hand. No clear evidence that the fire alarm had been serviced. No confidence that the system protecting the building was actually doing its job.

To make matters even more urgent, there was someone living in the flat directly above the shop.

This wasn’t just about paperwork anymore.

It was about protecting lives.

We rearranged our day and attended as quickly as we could. Our priority wasn’t selling anything. It was helping the customer demonstrate that they were taking immediate action to make the premises safer.

We carried out the necessary checks, identified what was working, highlighted what wasn’t, and put together a clear plan to restore compliance as quickly as possible.

One thing I always tell business owners is this.

The Fire and Rescue Service isn’t looking to catch people out. They want to see that you’re taking your responsibilities seriously. If there are issues, showing that you’re acting promptly and working with competent contractors can make a significant difference.

Unfortunately, too many businesses only discover the gaps in their fire safety arrangements when someone from the Fire Service is standing in reception asking questions.

By then, you’re reacting instead of planning.

If you’re responsible for a commercial premises, ask yourself:

Can you produce your fire alarm service records today?

Are your emergency lighting tests up to date?

Are your fire extinguishers maintained?

Would you be confident if a Fire Risk Assessor knocked on your door this afternoon?

If the answer to any of those questions is no, don’t wait until you’re under pressure.

We’re always happy to offer straightforward advice, whether you’re an existing customer or not.

Because compliance isn’t about passing an inspection.

It’s about making sure everyone gets home safely.

It’s not a question I expected to hear this week, but it genuinely happened.

I have to admit, my first reaction was to smile. Not because the customer had done anything wrong, but because they were genuinely trying to do the right thing. They recognised they needed a fire alarm system and had simply bought the first one that seemed like a bargain. The problem wasn’t their intentions. It was that nobody had given them the right advice.

After a chat, we both agreed we weren’t the right company for this particular job, and that’s absolutely fine.

The reality is we don’t win every enquiry that comes our way, and we don’t believe every conversation has to end with a sale.

If someone takes the time to contact us, we want them to leave knowing more than they did before they picked up the phone.

In this case, I pointed them towards reputable UK suppliers and suggested they choose a BAFE registered installer.

Why?

Because BAFE registration gives you confidence that the company has been independently assessed and regularly audited. Depending on the scheme, this includes areas such as:

✔ Competence and qualifications of engineers
✔ Installation, commissioning and maintenance procedures
✔ Quality management systems
✔ Staff training and ongoing competency
✔ Documentation and certification processes
✔ Calibration and testing equipment
✔ Compliance with relevant British Standards
✔ Regular independent audits to ensure standards continue to be met

Fire alarm systems aren’t just another online purchase. They form part of your building’s life safety strategy and, if they’re needed one day, they have to work exactly as intended.

So if you’re responsible for a commercial building and you’re not sure where to start, ask the question first. Even if we don’t end up working together, we’d much rather point you in the right direction than see you spend money on something that may not protect your people or meet your legal responsibilities.

If we can help, we’d be happy to have a conversation.

Why do I get more excited about a 5 star review than I do about an invoice being paid?

Maybe that makes me crazy.

Don’t get me wrong, invoices keep the lights on, pay wages and allow us to keep investing in the business.

But a paid invoice only tells me we’ve done the job.

A 5 star review tells me how we made someone feel while we were doing it.

It tells me we turned up when we said we would. We communicated properly. We explained things without jargon. We respected someone’s business. We left the site tidy. We solved a problem. We earned their trust.

The truth is, too many businesses have become used to poor service.

Not answering the phone.
Not turning up.
Not keeping customers informed.
Finding excuses instead of solutions.

So when someone experiences something different, they notice.

That’s what we try to build every single day at SAFE Fire & Security Systems.

We’re not just there to service your fire alarm or install a security system. We’re there to make compliance simple, remove stress and become the company you don’t have to chase.

If you’re responsible for fire alarms, CCTV, access control, intruder alarms, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers or fire doors, we’d love the opportunity to show you that compliance doesn’t have to be difficult.

Because at the end of the day, an invoice tells us we did business.

A 5 star review tells us we made a difference.

False fire alarms are more than just an inconvenience. Every unnecessary activation disrupts your business, causes lost productivity, creates complacency amongst staff and can result in unnecessary call outs from the Fire and Rescue Service.

Over time, repeated false alarms can lead to people becoming less responsive to genuine fire alarms, increasing the risk to life when a real emergency occurs. They can also damage equipment, interrupt critical operations and, in some cases, affect insurance requirements or attendance policies.

The good news is that most false alarms are preventable. Regular maintenance, correctly selected detection, good housekeeping, staff awareness and the prompt investigation of faults all play a vital role in reducing unwanted alarm activations.

At SAFE Fire & Security Systems, we don’t just maintain your fire alarm system. We help identify the root causes of false alarms, provide practical recommendations and ensure your system continues to operate reliably, giving you confidence that when the alarm sounds, it is for the right reason.

How many companies does it take to keep a business compliant?

Apparently… as many as possible. 🙄

One company services your fire alarm.

Another looks after your emergency lighting.

Someone else turns up for the fire extinguishers.

A different contractor maintains your CCTV.

Another does the intruder alarm.

Then there’s access control, fire doors, fire risk assessments… and before you know it, you’re juggling six or seven different companies, six different invoices, six different service dates and trying to work out who was supposed to fix what.

There has to be a better way.

That’s exactly why we built SAFE Fire & Security Systems differently.

We provide one point of contact for all your fire and security compliance.

✔ Fire alarms
✔ Emergency lighting
✔ Fire extinguishers
✔ Intruder alarms
✔ CCTV
✔ Access control
✔ Fire door inspections

Where possible, we coordinate everything into a single engineer visit.

That means:

✅ One supplier to manage
✅ One invoice instead of several
✅ One maintenance schedule
✅ One customer portal for all certificates, reports and invoices
✅ Every asset tagged, photographed and recorded with a clear pass or fail status
✅ Outstanding remedial works tracked until they’re resolved

Less administration.

Less chasing contractors.

Less chance of something being missed.

More confidence that your compliance is under control.

If you’re still coordinating multiple contractors just to stay compliant, perhaps it’s time to make life a little easier.

“You sound so Black Country!” 🤣

I’ve had quite a few comments on my recent videos about my accent. Some people say I sound Black Country, others say Brummie.

Guess what?

I’m proud of it.

SAFE Fire & Security Systems was built in Halesowen, right in the heart of the Black Country.

For anyone who doesn’t know, the Black Country earned its name during the Industrial Revolution. The area became one of the world’s industrial powerhouses, with coal mines, iron foundries and factories covering the landscape. The smoke and soot turned the area black, giving it the name that’s still recognised across the world today.

It’s a place built on hard work, honesty and engineering. Values that are still at the heart of our business today.

Being based in Halesowen also puts us in a fantastic position. We’re just minutes from the M5 and M6, meaning we can quickly reach businesses across Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Walsall, Solihull, Coventry and the wider West Midlands. We also regularly support customers further afield when they need a reliable fire and security partner.

We work with facilities managers, compliance managers, schools, academy trusts, commercial landlords, block management companies, industrial sites and multi site businesses who want to simplify their fire and security compliance.

Instead of juggling several contractors, we can look after your fire alarms, CCTV, intruder alarms, access control, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers and more, all under one roof.

One company.
One engineer visit where possible.
One invoice.
One customer portal.

So yes, the accent is staying. 😁

If your business could benefit from a simpler approach to fire and security compliance, we’d love to have a chat.
