Politics should not be a closed shop.
It shouldn't depend on having the right degree, going to the right university, knowing the right people or already having connections in Westminster.

We want politics to be accessible to far more people - and particularly to young people with ambition, ideas and the courage to do something different.

That's why we want young people across the region to know about the Reform Accelerator Programme. 👇

⏱️ 12 weeks
🏛️ Based inside Reform UK's headquarters
💷 Full-time and PAID
📄 No CV required
🎓 No degree required
🚪 No previous political experience required

You'll spend two weeks learning how the party works, how campaigns are won, how we communicate with millions of people and how a national political organisation operates.

Then you'll spend ten weeks getting stuck into real work across areas including:

🗳️ Campaigns
🎤 Events
➕ and more.

You'll work alongside the people preparing Reform for the 2027 local elections and the next General Election, with real responsibilities and real deadlines.

🌍 A MESSAGE TO OUR YOUNG PEOPLE

If you're ambitious, adventurous and want to broaden your horizons, don't assume Westminster is somewhere that belongs to other people.

You might be leaving school or college and wondering what's next. You might have decided university isn't for you. You might simply be fascinated by politics and want the opportunity to prove what you can do.

Your background shouldn't determine your destination.

We need a political system that opens doors to talented young people from ordinary communities across our country

👉 So take a look. Apply. Share it with a young person who might never have imagined that politics could be for them.

Sometimes broadening your horizons starts with somebody showing you that the opportunity exists.

💷Labour claims there is “no choice” but to impose the maximum Council Tax rise on Calderdale residents.

We disagree.

Despite inheriting a serious financial challenge, we are working tirelessly to cut waste, improve efficiency and protect frontline services—so hard-pressed households are not automatically treated as the council’s cash machine.

Kent has already proved Labour’s scare stories wrong. Now we are determined to do the same in Calderdale.

🌦️ Out and about, dodging the showers this week!

A big thank you to all the residents who have stopped to chat, shared their ideas about how we can improve things locally, raised issues that matter to them, and offered their support.

Listening to residents and acting on what you tell us is exactly what local representation should be about.

It is extraordinary that the Home Office considers it necessary to explain to adults entering Britain that women have equal rights and that s*x without consent is r**e.

These are not obscure British customs that newcomers need help understanding. They are fundamental principles of our law and society.

If the Government genuinely believes some of those entering the asylum system need to be taught these basics, the question is not whether the leaflet is well written.

THE QUESTION IS why we have an immigration and asylum system bringing people into this country whom officials believe may not already understand or accept them.

Britain should not have to explain that r**e is wrong. Anyone coming here should be expected to respect our laws and the equal rights of women from day one — and those laws should be enforced without hesitation.

Disgraceful!

Last night, Reform UK Calderdale hosted Reform leaders from Lancashire, Bradford and Pendle to discuss the proposed Calderdale Energy Park.

The meeting agreed a joint position opposing the development and a coordinated way forward.

🔦THE WARNING SIGNS ARE FLASHING 🔦

The ONS says some small firms may not be recruiting because of rising labour costs and other operating expenses.

Unemployment is now 4.9%, vacancies have fallen to 707,000, and payroll employment dropped again in July.

Small businesses create jobs—but when government makes employing people increasingly expensive, recruitment stops and unemployment rises.

You cannot tax and burden employers into creating prosperity.

SO MUCH FOR DEVOLUTION…

🚨Today’s Guardian headline should concern anyone who believes local communities should have a real say over what gets built around them:

“Loosening of planning rules in England to allow more new homes near stations”

And importantly — that includes building on GREEN BELT land.

Labour’s new planning approach will introduce a “default yes” for housing developments close to well-connected train and tram stations — including proposals on Green Belt sites.

🚨At the same time, from 31 October, the new mandatory National Scheme of Delegation will REMOVE many planning decisions from LOCALLY ELECTED councillors and place them in the hands of planning officers.

So much for Andy Burnham’s promise of greater devolution.

How can you claim to be handing more power to councils and communities, while Westminster is simultaneously making it harder for those same communities — and the councillors they elect — to influence planning decisions?

We need more homes. But they need to be the right homes, in the right places, with the infrastructure to support them — not a Westminster-imposed “default yes” that puts even more pressure on our Green Belt.

Devolution should mean MORE local democracy, not less.

Protect our Green Belt. Protect local democracy.
