Multicultural Richmond are launching a new Community Group at Active Hampton based at 32 Tangley Park Road, Hampton, TW12 3YH.

They are hosting a free taster session on Tuesday 18th August at 11am at Active Hampton, an informal morning with tea, coffee and treats, where people can find out more and share what they'd enjoy. Everyone is welcome and there's no need to book. Activities are still being confirmed, with more details to follow.

We were pleased to meet the busy Voices of Hope team and see food recipe boxes and their ingredients which will feed a family of four, being prepared for distribution to local schools. Voices of Hope have been piloting Baby Box to support families to wean babies, with healthy and sustainable recipes. They also support and enable women through wellbeing activities and group support work, to thrive after experiencing domestic violence. It was a pleasure to meet the wider team to learn about the preparation to expand this service into the Hampton Fund area of benefit.

We have such a strong and collaborative community in the voluntary sector in Richmond. This was celebrated last week at a convivial summer reception hosted by Councillor Gareth Roberts, Leader of Richmond Council who acknowledged with thanks the impact of our work as a community. It was wonderful to catch up with many of our charity partners, colleagues and councillors. The Voluntary Sector Forum is another useful opportunity to exchange information about areas of interest and network together. Last Wednesday’s forum had a range of interesting presentations including: developing youth talent to address growing levels of youth unemployment, the challenges and opportunities of AI, refugee services offered by the Council including Borough of Sanctuary grants, Trustee Forward: mentoring potential trustees/chairs, a new Food Partnership Network and help available for armed forces veterans from the charity SSAFA. The Forum is open to voluntary sector organisations, Council representatives and other stakeholders and next meets on 1st October 2026.

We are very pleased to see The Guardian newspaper have highlighted the great work of The Real Junk Food Project addressing food insecurity at ETNA Community Centre and how key local hubs are, in reaching those in need in our community. The Real Junk Food Project- Twickenham also operates from Linden Hall, Hampton, Hampton Hill High Street and from other community centres across the Borough of Richmond.

We were delighted to visit Integrated Neurological Services (INS) to learn how they support local people with neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s and stroke with their expertise and care. INS provide long-term, professional and peer support in the community, helping their service users to manage symptoms, increase independence and live well with their condition. It was great to attend Richmond Borough’s Refugee Celebration and meet our partners Multicultural Richmond, Ukrainian Social Club, Richmond Borough Mind, Richmond EAL Friendship Group who all had stalls showcasing their services and activities. Local community centre partners Linden Hall Community Centre, Greenwood Centre and Elleray Hall Centre were represented too. We were all entertained by music, dance and art from around the globe; as well as being fed with delicious cuisine. Cllr Fiona Sacks, Richmond Council’s Borough of Sanctuary Champion reminded us that ‘Refugee Week is a powerful opportunity for us to come together as neighbours and recognise the strength, courage and contributions, both to our community and beyond, of those seeking sanctuary’.
