Recently the FIA welcome a new cohort of EFT GROUP apprentices to our state of the art facility in Northwich. Attending delegates were given an immersive introduction to the industry, highlighting the often unseen work the fire industry undertake and the many available career pathways available in the industry.

Following this, the group took part in a series of challenges which involved using real-world fire alarm equipment, exploring our practical training environments where they got hands on with equipment such as wet risers and hose reels. Afterwards, apprentices were introduced to the manufacturer displays at the Centre of Excellence where they could see first-hand breadth of systems and technologies used across the industry.

Throughout the experience, there was a clear emphasis on active participation, allowing apprentices to investigate, question and solve problems, in the aim of building a foundation for lifelong learning.

For a group of apprentices in their very first week in the fire industry, the message from the FIA was simple: you have made a brilliant career choice.

Seven years ago, a devastating fire destroyed the Beechmere retirement village in Crewe, and now new plans have been proposed to redevelop the site.

Developers Avantage are proposing to build a extra care development on the site and would provide 75 apartments, and would be smaller than the original complex. Crucially the proposal is supported by a thorough fire safety strategy, with sprinklers being a key component in the strategy.

The redevelopment welcomes a opportunity to apply what lessons have been learned. Click here to find out more and see the thoughts of the Chair of the Business Sprinkler Alliance.
