๐๏ธ Working street by street for Edgware Ward
This week, I continued working with fellow ward councillors Cllr. Nicola Blackman - Edgware and Yogesh Teli, speaking to residents, local businesses, and council officers to improve our neighbourhood and ensure local concerns receive proper attention.
โ
Completed and visible improvements
๐ธ Hanging baskets are helping to brighten the shopping areas around Burnt Oak Broadway, Whitchurch Lane and Mollison Way.
๐ฃ๏ธ Resurfacing has been completed on St Brides Avenue.
๐ง Kerb and tree-pit defects in The Highlands have been repaired following concerns raised locally.
๐ถ Action taken this week
๐ During a ward walkabout on 11 September, we inspected local shopping areas, spoke with businesses and reported 15 fly-tipping incidents for action.
๐๏ธ We raised waste and bin-capacity concerns around Whitchurch Lane and asked businesses to help keep frontages and rear service areas clear.
๐ณ๏ธ I have requested inspections of Raeburn Road and Constable Gardens for pothole filling and road patching.
๐ณ Tree-pruning concerns on Bromsgrove Gardens have also been referred to the relevant council teams.
๐ Work currently underway
๐ง Camrose Avenue: Cadentโs essential gas-main replacement is listed as continuing until 18 October, while council highway improvements between numbers 87 and 99 are scheduled until 9 October. These works include new kerbs, a pedestrian island, drainage, a rain garden, improved footways, tactile paving and block paving. Traffic management and nearby road closures may continue while the work progresses.
๐ถ Lawrence Crescent and De Havilland Road: I sought an urgent update about the alleyway and Definitive Map Modification Order. The council has confirmed that it is awaiting the Secretary of Stateโs Inspectorโs formal decision on whether the route is a public right of way. No timetable has yet been provided.
๐ Mollison Way: Following consultation on proposed restrictions, the recommendation is that the scheme proceed as advertised. The proposal is intended to improve pedestrian and car visibility.
๐๏ธ Active planning and licensing matters
The latest public planning information lists the following applications as pending:
โข 237 Burnt Oak Broadway: proposed two-storey, one-bedroom dwelling accessed from Columbia Avenue
โข 63 Vancouver Road: application seeking confirmation of existing use as three self-contained flats
โข 37 Turner Road: proposed front porch, single-storey rear extension and rear patio
โข 113A Vancouver Road: roof alterations, rear dormer, rooflights and associated window changes
Residents should check the official Harrow planning portal for the full drawings, statutory consultation dates and most recent status before commenting. Search Harrow planning applications https://www.harrow.gov.uk/planning-developments
๐ก Proposed work over the next two months
๐ฆ St Brides Avenue: sinusoidal speed humps are planned for the October half-term period. Exact installation dates remain to be confirmed, and the work has been coordinated around the Camrose Avenue programme.
I will continue monitoring disruption, following up on reported problems, and pushing for practical improvements residents can see.
