Dear Greenhill Residents,
The last few days have been incredibly difficult, having lost the opportunity to continue representing you by just 15 votes.
It has been a true honour to serve as a Councillor over the last four years and to represent the residents of Greenhill — the place I proudly call home.
This role was more than just a job to me. I did it with my heart and gave it everything I had because I’ve always believed in serving others and making a difference where I can.
I’m proud of what we achieved together alongside residents, colleagues, council officers and community organisations. We were able to support people who didn’t know where else to turn, improve long-standing problem areas, and deliver projects that will continue to benefit the community long after my time in office.
Those who know me well, know how much I love lights — not just the kind you can see, but the kind people bring into the world. The festive lights we funded in the town centre will continue to shine each year, and it brings me real joy to know I played a small part in bringing some warmth and sparkle to our community.
I’m also proud that, after initially being told it couldn’t be done, we secured funding for new lighting in Lowlands Rec so that students, teachers and residents could feel safer walking through it. Knowing that those lights will remain there for years to come and people feel safe because of something we did, means a great deal to me.
One of our most recent projects was helping fund a warm hub, which I was delighted to learn just last week, has already welcomed and helped hundreds of residents, provided meals for people who otherwise may have gone without, and created a space for connection, creativity and support. Those are the kinds of things that truly matter and mean everything to me.
Over the last few months, I’ve had many conversations on the doorstep — some hopeful, some difficult. I know many people feel disillusioned with politics and believe politicians are all the same. All I can say is that I approached this role with genuine care, compassion and a real desire to serve my community.
I’ve learnt so much over the last four years, and while I wasn’t ready for this chapter to end, I have to trust and believe that life has other plans for me.
Although I may no longer hold this position, I remain a committed member of this community and will always do what I can to help wherever possible.
Finally, thank you to everyone who placed their trust in me, and to my colleagues, friends and family for their unwavering support, kindness and love throughout this journey.
See you out there.
Much love,
Aneka ♥️
