🇬🇧 GREAT BRITISH SUMMER SAVINGS 🇬🇧

This summer Labour is cutting VAT from 20% to 5% on family days out and children’s meals, helping parents keep more of their own money. The cuts will run from the end of June and right through the school summer holidays.

That means cheaper:

🎢 Theme parks
🦁 Zoos
🎬 Cinemas
🎭 Theatres
🍔 Kids’ meals in pubs, cafés and restaurants
🎠 Family attractions and soft play centres

PLUS:

🚌 Free bus travel for children in August
⛽ Fuel duty freeze extended until the end of the year
🛒 Lower food import tariffs to help keep supermarket prices down

Families deserve a summer they can actually afford, not being squeezed every time the kids want a day out.

This is what putting ordinary people first looks like.

BRITAIN IS MAKING THINGS AGAIN 🇬🇧⚒️

For decades, Britain sold off its industries, outsourced our jobs, and allowed foreign companies to decide the future of towns like Hartlepool.

Enough.

I fully welcome the renationalisation of British Steel today and it was good to meet with Minister Chris McDonald this week to discuss it. Steel is not just another business, it is the backbone of our national security, our economy and our industrial strength.

Every serious country protects its steel industry. America does it. China does it. France does it.

Britain should too.

Right now, we import around 68% of the steel we use. Think about how insane that is.

British taxpayers are funding railways, wind farms, warships, housing and infrastructure projects, while the steel is too often made overseas instead of in British towns by British workers.

If Britain is building warships, use British steel.
If Britain is building homes, use British steel.
If Britain is building wind farms, railways and infrastructure, use British steel.

Globalisation hollowed out communities like Hartlepool and told working people to accept decline as “progress”.

We reject that failed ideology.

We need reindustrialisation.
We need protection for strategic industries.
We need procurement rules that put Britain first.

Our communities built this country once before and we can build it again. 🇬🇧

‘LET’S TALK HARTLEPOOL’ IS BACK

Following two fantastic Let’s Talk Hartlepool events, we’re bringing the conversation back on Thursday 25th June at Hartlepool College of Further Education.

The first two events brought together residents from across Hartlepool for thoughtful, respectful discussions about the issues affecting our town and country. Since then, many people have told me they want these events to become more regular, more conversational, and held in more venues across Hartlepool, so that’s exactly what we’re doing.

This next event will introduce a more interactive format, with smaller table discussions alongside wider open-floor conversation, helping create a more relaxed and welcoming space where more people can comfortably take part.

Whether you want to raise concerns, discuss local or national issues, share ideas for Hartlepool’s future, or simply listen and join the conversation, you are very welcome.

We’re also now planning more frequent Let’s Talk Hartlepool events in venues across the town, including the Headland and Seaton Carew, with enquiries underway with schools, community centres, sports clubs, and hospitality venues across Hartlepool.

I hope to see you there! If you’re from Hartlepool, then you are very welcome to come along.

🚨 Action announced for drivers, haulage and farmers 🚨

✅ 5p fuel duty cut extended til the end of the year - saving drivers £120 vs plans inherited from last govt.

✅ Hauliers to get a 12-month road tax holiday - they will pay £1 at renewal, saving £600 for a typical heavy lorry and £912 for the biggest vehicles on the road.

✅ Red diesel slashed to its lowest rate in over 20 years. The fuel duty rate on red diesel will be cut by over a third from 10.18p to 6.48p per litre from 15 June until the end of the year. This will support agriculture, rail freight, and other users of red diesel and rebated fuels.

A BAD DAY FOR CRIMINALS IN HARTLEPOOL

Started this morning at the Civic Centre for an Operation Artemis briefing with Hartlepool Police and partners.

Operation Artemis is Cleveland Police’s coordinated crackdown on organised crime, drug dealers, anti-social behaviour and repeat offenders who damage our communities.

Today, that work was clear to see.

Warrants executed. Doors smashed in. Arrests made. Drugs seized. Vehicles taken off the road. Criminal networks disrupted.

The vast majority of people in Hartlepool are law-abiding, hardworking residents who simply want safe streets and strong communities. They are tired of a small minority of parasites causing harm and misery.

The message today was simple: the net is closing in.

My thanks go to the officers, staff and partner agencies involved. Their professionalism and bravery protect our town every day.

To those involved in crime in Hartlepool: the message is clear, we are coming after you, and we will not stop.

HARTLEPOOL AT THE HEART OF OUR NUCLEAR FUTURE

Great to attend the Nuclear Skills and Apprenticeships Fair during Nuclear Week in Parliament, showcasing the real jobs, careers and skills the nuclear industry can offer.

It was inspiring to meet apprentices who are already forging successful new careers in the sector and to hear first-hand about the opportunities being created for the next generation.

As part of the £12 billion deal for new nuclear that we secured for our town in 2025, we are transforming the old Binns building into a new Nuclear Academy right here in Hartlepool.

This investment will help ensure Hartlepool people have the skills, training and opportunities needed to benefit fully from the future of nuclear energy and the high-quality jobs it will bring to our town.
