What can you do to reduce textile waste? ♻️

Textiles that are discarded either end up in landfill or are incinerated, both of these majorly contribute to the emission of greenhouse gases. Knowing how to be more sustainable with fabric waste can make a positive impact on not only the environment, but also your local community and even yourself.

Instead of discarding fabrics in bins, at ReLoved we will happily take waste fabric donations to repurpose. 🤲

👕 Waste Fabric that we will take is any clothing that is damaged beyond repair, or has bleach, paint or pen marks.

❗️ When donating clothing waste, please put these items into a separate bag from normal clothing donations.

🖊️ Label this bag as “Waste” so that we can repurpose these fabrics efficiently and correctly.

📍 ReLoved, 173 York Road, TS26 9EQ.
Open Tuesday & Thursday, 10AM-2PM.

What happens to textiles and fabrics that are wasted in the UK? 👕

The UK is the seventh largest producer of textile waste in the world. With the rise of fast fashion and the demand for clothing continuing to grow, the number of textile waste that is produced in the UK only continues to increase. 20% of the discarded textile waste in the UK goes into landfill, and 80% is incinerated.

Only 21% of Shoppers in the UK state that they consistently choose sustainable options when it comes to clothing. Knowing how we can be more sustainable can help us to tackle the problem of fabric and textile waste and not only help the environment by repairing or up-cycling old clothes, but also helping give back to our community by donating unwanted clothes to local charities and organisations that can then be given a new life in someone else’s hands.

Here at ReLoved, we’ve managed to stop nearly 37 tonnes of textile waste from going into landfill sites over three years. We’re focused on creating sustainable solutions to reduce fabric waste and also strive to give back to the local community. Through your donations and continued support, we can make this possible. Thank you. 🩷

Do you know where your donated clothes are ending up? 🌍

Across the UK, there have been many cases of individuals creating fraudulent, unregistered charities to mislead donations and then sell these donations for profit. These scams directly impact charities work and also impact people who are in desperate need of clothing.

While there is not a definite indicator of a fraudulent charity bag or clothing bank, there are signs and alternatives that can be used to ensure that you are giving your clothing to a good cause. By donating to local organisations, or directly donating to specific charities you can ensure that your donations will be used for a good cause.

Here at ReLoved, items that are donated are given a second life and go back into our community. Thank you to everyone who supports local, and sustainable, organisations and solutions. 💚

This image was originally shared yesterday by a local resident and has since been shared today by Jonathan Brash MP for Hartlepool, who is working to help address the situation.

While this post isn’t about criticism, it is difficult not to feel disappointed. Once clothing is left outside, placed on the ground, and exposed to the elements, it often becomes contaminated and unusable. At that point it is no longer a resource, but waste, contributing to landfill and having a negative environmental impact 🌍

It also reinforces why supporting local organisations like ReLoved Clothing is so important. When clothing is donated directly to community-led services, it can be reused responsibly and redistributed to local people and families who need it most.

We understand that not everyone is able to get out during standard opening times. That’s why we work hard to be as flexible as possible. We can accept donations during our opening hours, can arrange collections where needed, and provide a range of drop-off locations across the borough to make donating as accessible as possible.

When clothing is donated to ReLoved, people can be confident about what happens next. Items are sorted carefully, reused appropriately, and stay within the local community, rather than being left outdoors and ending up as waste.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support local, sustainable solutions and helps protect both our community and our environment ♻️💚

Thank you to local Hart Ward residents for raising this with me and the Council.

I can confirm that the land is NOT Council owned and they have NOT granted any permissions. Given that it is blocking the footway and there are yellow lines directly outside of it, the Council are trying to get it shifted.

In the meantime, if you have spare clothes that you want to donate can I urge you to give them to a brilliant Hartlepool organisation like ReLoved Clothing .

What is Volunteering and how does it make an impact on our lives? 🤝

ReLoved runs on community power, by people who are passionate and dedicated to giving their time and effort to make a difference in the town. At ReLoved, Volunteers give back roughly £216,700 per year and are a crucial part of what we do. 🩷

Volunteering can help people in many different ways - from making connections, gaining experience or committing to fulfilling work.

We’re currently looking for Volunteers to expand both our opening hours and days at the hub. If you believe that you or someone you know could benefit from volunteering with us, get in touch!

Another year comes to a close , a year where thousands of families across Hartlepool have been supported through our doors. Today we finished up with some nibbles, lots of laughter, and a moment to pause with some of our team who were able to attend.

We took time to celebrate the achievements, but also to acknowledge the difficult moments along the way. Some of our team shared their stories, how they came to be part of ReLoved, what it has meant to them, and what keeps them coming back. I can honestly say there wasn’t a dry eye in the room.

I want to thank every single member of our team for your hard work, compassion, and determination over the last three and a half years. Without you, ReLoved simply wouldn’t exist. You make me proud every single day, and I am so grateful to be on this journey with you.

Thank you also to all of our partner organisations. Working together allows us to reach further, respond quicker, and make a real difference, not just in Hartlepool, but beyond. Together we support, together we care, and together we are stronger.

A huge thank you to our funders, your belief in our work allows us to keep the doors open, respond when families are in crisis, and continue growing what we offer to the community.

To every single person who donates to ReLoved, your generosity is the backbone of everything we do. Every bag dropped off, every item thoughtfully passed on, represents dignity, kindness, and hope for someone else. You turn surplus into support, and kindness into real impact.

And finally, to every family and individual who walks through our door, whether you come for clothing, support, a coffee, a chat, or simply somewhere safe to offload, thank you for trusting us. You are the reason we do this. ReLoved is your space, and you are always welcome here.

Here’s to 2026…
