Great to hear that Dacorum continues to be a hot spot for high profile Films and TV productions. Huge thanks must go to the brilliant Amy in our Film Office., who is a master co-ordinator and reliable, trusted partner for the many production companies that visit us.

Please do share this service to anyone who may be supporting a veteran and could do with a bit of support themselves.

Today, in Hemel Hempstead’s beautiful Walled Garden, I joined fellow councillors, members of the Armed Forces and the Royal British Legion for a moving VJ Day service, coming together to remember and honour all those who served and sacrificed in the Far East.

It was incredibly moving service and it was so great to meet veterans, soldiers and relatives of those who served, and to hear their stories. An extended group of sons and daughters came to honour their father and grandfather and spoke about how important it is to keep these memories alive within families and to pass them on to future generations.

Peter told me about how he visits schools to share the history - and made the important point that it is not only children who sometimes need reminding, but teachers and adults too. As the years pass and living memory becomes more distant, remembrance and education become even more important.

Take a moment to remember today. We must never forget the courage, sacrifice and terrible suffering of those who served, and of the families who waited for them at home.

They gave their tomorrows for our todays.

Lest we forget. 🌺

🔥 Devastating to see the fire on Nettleden Road. So sorry to see the loss of trees and wildlife habitat, as well as the damage to local business buildings.

A huge thank you to our heroic Fire & Rescue Service for tackling the blaze and working in such difficult conditions. 🚒❤️

With temperatures set to rise again this week, it’s also a timely reminder that some of our more rural homes and properties can be particularly vulnerable during prolonged dry weather.

Having lived in Australia, where preparing for the risk of bushfires was part of life, one simple precaution was to keep the area immediately around homes and outbuildings clear of dry leaves, dead vegetation and other easily combustible material.

With our countryside becoming increasingly dry, a little extra vigilance around our homes, gardens and rural businesses could make a real difference. 🌳🔥

Please take care everyone - and once again, an enormous thank you to our Fire & Rescue crews.
