Adventure is at the heart of everything we do. It is the single most important thing that sets Scouts apart. Through the everyday adventure of Scouting, young people and adult volunteers regularly experience new challenges that enrich their lives. Scouting helps our young improve their key skills, including social skills, teamwork ability, leadership ability and confidence. Our volunteers also enj

oy the benefits of Scouting by learning new skills, making new friends and enjoying a social life with a purpose. There are hundreds of different volunteer roles on offer, from management positions, running activities to behind the scenes roles like driving the minibus or painting and decorating. Our varied and exciting programme offers hundreds of activities, from camping and hiking to surfing and paragliding. Young people can also achieve their badges in such diverse subjects as PR, electronics and entertainment. Scouting is a unique adventure that’s full of surprises. Join in and see for yourself.

So I know it's a little late but we are all safe and settled in. We have had a wide game in the dark and the watchers in the game selected the teams. We have had supper and hot chocolate and all the children are settling down in their tents.... some more successfully than others..

I am loving the Scout Association.

Given the national crisis around driving test availability, the Scout Association have launched a new staged activity badge that matches exactly the requirements of the UK driving licence, allowing Scouts holding the badge to avoid the long waits for driving tests.

The Scout badge cannot be attempted until the driving theory test has been passed.

Scout leaders holding wood beads and with category D1 driving licences will automatically be authorised to sign off the badge following a short satisfactory practical demonstration of skills by the Scout in the Scout Leaders vehicle (subject to the usual risk assessment). The good will of the Scout Leaders coupled with a ground breaking deal with the UK insurance industry makes this badge a reality. Any impact on a Scout Leaders car insurance costs will be negligible, as long as they and the Scout driving both wear their neckerchiefs.

Chief Scout Dwayne Fields says
‘This Scouting initiative gives us a powerful and important role to play in local communities, as we continue our work to bring communities together and champion inclusiveness, social mobility and civic participation’.

The new Time on the Road stage 1 badge is the first of 5 levels, with the additional levels being launched with the new Explorers programme in the autumn.

Dear All,

As some of you may be aware, the next World Scout Jamboree is in Poland, and our county (GLMW) are attending, as well as forming units for the Haarlem Jamborette in the Netherlands, and a UK based Jamboree experience in the Summer of 2027.

We are very sorry but communication has broken down massively and we have been granted extra time for our scouts to apply as we were not aware that the deadline had passed.

The Jamboree unit have kindly re-opened applications for us until SATURDAY 22nd MIDDAY if anyone wants to apply.

If you have received an email, it means you are within the age bracket to apply for these exciting international opportunities. You need to have been born between 30th July 2009 and 30th July 2013.

Please read the jamboree application page on the GLMW website to get more details on the events the link is in the email. Selection weekends are this weekend and next weekend, so make sure you are available for the 2nd weekend (29th & 30th) to be at PACCAR for the selection.

These are amazing, life changing opportunities and you only get one chance when you are in the age range.

Please don't let the cost deter you from applying, as 4th Heston will support anyone who gets selected. Also, the selection weekends are great fun days, allowing you to meet other scouts and explorers in our county, so worth doing just for that!

Please fill in this form before midday this Saturday for a chance to attend the selection weekend.

Any questions, please don't hesitate to email me.

Kind regards,

David

Scout Leader
