Andrew George, the Liberal Democrat MP for St Ives, recently secured fourth place in the Private Members’ Bill ballot.
This gives him an opportunity to introduce legislation of his choosing to Parliament and, given his relatively high position in the ballot, any bill he brings forward would stand a realistic chance of becoming law.
As LD Friends of Palestine members based in the Devon and Cornwall region, we wanted to let you know that we have been in conversation with Andrew about the possibility of using this opportunity to introduce legislation banning UK trade with Israel’s illegal settlements. This has been Liberal Democrat policy since 2021 and would represent a significant step towards applying economic pressure in response to the ongoing occupation of Palestinian lands.
Fingers crossed!
