June saw the celebration of 30 Days Wild - hopefully you were able to get out and enjoy some nature 🌳

A reminder that the 2026 wildlife survey from the Sussex Wildlife Trust is still open - it's only 10 short questions about what you've seen in nature, your concerns for the natural world and highlighting a special species to learn more about 🦫

They will use the results to help guide them in protecting the wildlife and people of Sussex. Click the link in the comment below to complete the survey.

It’s Clean Air Day!

Domestic transport produces nearly a third of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions. However, greenhouse gases aren’t the only pollutants that are produced by our cars. Vehicles also contribute to air pollution, which is toxic to humans and animals, leading to a variety of illnesses, especially respiratory ones.

There are many actions we can take to reduce air pollution. Try walking to work, school, or the shops instead of driving. Not only will you reduce your emissions, but walking also improves your physical and mental wellbeing, reducing your risk of dementia, depression, and cardiovascular diseases, amongst many others. You’ll also save money on fuel!

However, if you’re unable to swap your daily commute to a walk, there are other options you can try:
• Use public transport instead of driving.
• Car share – try driving to work with someone you know or take it in turns to drive the kids to school.
• Work from home an extra day per week instead of going into the office.
• Cycle – this will also keep you fit and active!
• Drive partway to school and walk the last part

By tackling dirty air, we can also boost our local economy as breathing in cleaner air improves our productivity, reduces sick days and helps alleviate the burden on our NHS. 🚶🏽 🧑🏻‍🦽 🚲

Today is International Biodiversity Day - hopefully with the gorgeous weather predicted for this bank holiday weekend, you can find some time to enjoy the biodiversity in Horsham District 🌞

We've already mentioned these plucky migrants on our feed recently, but the return of the ⭐Storrington Swifts ⭐ is one clear example of how relatively modest, local projects have an impact for wildlife across borders.

Over the past six years, our project has funded community groups, parishes and businesses to install almost 200 Swift boxes to replace lost habitat across the Horsham District for these iconic birds, who travel thousands of kilometres from Sub-Saharan Africa to breed.
