Reform have actually lost 14 of the 21 seats they have defended, easily the worst retention rate of any party.
That must serve as a warning to people who are tempted who may also have noticed a couple of our lovely councillors (ie 1/4 of the Reform councillors) telling ITV that they won their seat by lying. More at 10.30 pm on Sunday evening on ITV1

Kemi bounce in evidence in Flintshire with the Conservatives equalling Reform and crushing Heritage with their mighty 21 votes. Labour, Lib Dem, Green and Plaid Cymru took the wise decision to run away and hide. :)

What the Conservative leader thinks of her councillors (from Huffingyon Post)

"A former neo-Nazi who was jailed for posting anti-semitic material and harassing a Jewish MP can become a Tory councillor but not an MP, Kemi Badenoch has declared.
The Conservative leader said what Joshua Bonehill-Paine did in the past was “appalling and abhorrent” and he should not be given a “national platform”.
But she said it was fine for him to become a councillor because they only deal with things like “parking and putting out bins”."

I remember a few years ago we reviewed councillor's allowances, compared them to some others, and set allowances at a comparable level. We then agreed that future changes in allowances would be linked to CPI (I believe). This seemed very sensible, and should have avoided future excessive increases and shocks like this one. The current increases by my calculation put allowances up 19% compared with an increase in the CPI (over 2 years) of 6%. That is very excessive. It is extremely excessive for the top earners - leader of the Labour party, cabinet and Chief Whip (for Labour) [why are council tax payers asked to pay the salary of what is an entirely political role, keeping Labour councillors from having any disagreements with the Leader?] All these and the Chair of planning and Chair of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee are all being boosted by 35%, about 6 times the increase in the cost of living. The Deputy chair of planning gets a 90% increase and the leader of the second opposition party (presumably Reform) catch a 483% increase. Nice work if you can get it, though I don't know if local Reform leaders get multi-million £ presents from Thai Crypto billionaires like their leader. As the leader of the third opposition party (Green) I will have to struggle by on a meagre 119% increase, though of course that will not benefit me personally as I have pledged to donate any income outside the basic councillor allowance to local charities. I will reveal which charities I am donating to when I have decided and worked out the amounts.
