A funding agreement for free parking has been reached for council-run car parks across Huntingdonshire. 🚙

Subject to approval by Huntingdonshire District Council District Council's cabinet on July 14, free parking will start from October 1 this year, running from 4pm Mondays to Fridays.

Mayor Paul Bristow pledged to bring free parking to Huntingdonshire, and Huntingdon, Ramsey, St Ives and St Neots would benefit from the scheme.

Paul said: “I pledged to bring free parking to Huntingdonshire because our market towns deserve a boost. Huntingdon, Ramsey, St Ives and St Neots are all brilliant towns with great businesses, places to eat and drink, and good communities. Free parking removes at least one barrier to more people coming in and supporting what’s on their doorstep, strengthening our local economy.

The aim is to bring in more footfall to support local businesses, with a particular focus on boosting the evening economy, supporting jobs and growth.

The Cambridgeshire Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Combined Authority has just released the 2026 Skills Survey Snapshot Report, and the results are eye-opening. We asked 341 local employers about their biggest challenges, and here is what’s really going on in our local job market:

📉 52% of local businesses found recruitment difficult or very difficult over the past year.
🛠️ 60% of employers say applicants are missing crucial technical skills for the role.
💻 The need for digital skills is expected to jump significantly over the next two to three years.
💷 When it comes to upskilling current staff, 46% say cost and finding the time are major roadblocks, especially for smaller businesses.

There is a massive opportunity to connect businesses with local colleges and training providers.

Your feedback is going straight into the new Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) to build clearer pathways into work, simplify apprenticeships, and ensure local training actually matches what our regional economy needs to grow.

Mayor Paul Bristow marked the start of building works for the new Cygnet Bridge with partners Peterborough City Council.

The new cycle and pedestrian bridge over the River Nene will provide a more direct, pedestrian and cyclist friendly route from south of the river, to the city centre and Embankment.

This project has been jointly funded by the Combined Authority, The Towns Fund and the City Council, and is expected to take around 12 months to complete.

Paul Bristow said "Better connecting the south of the river to the Embankment and city centre is an important step for the future of Peterborough. Cygnet Bridge puts infrastructure in place ahead of the further regeneration and development this city needs and deserves.”
