West London Birders

West London Birders Local group of birders with car outings exploring the best bird watching sites close to London. All welcome from beginners to dedicated birders.

As a group of bird enthusiasts, but not twitchers, we want to share our knowledge of birds. We came together in 2008 when the local RSPB group closed and wished to continue with an exciting programme of events. We organise regular car outings to explore the best birdwatching sites within a couple of hours of Ealing. We also hold a monthly Conservation Working Party at RSPB Church Wood reserve at H

edgerley, Buckinghamshire carrying out coppicing, fencing and nest box monitoring. Weekends away are also organised as well as an annual overseas trip! Please contact Nigel Dodd for further details. [email protected]

12 of us braved the rain and wind at Keyhaven today which was very rewarding.
Our arrival coincided with the high tide which pushed many waders into the lagoons where we had good views of Dunlin, Knot, Ringed Plover, Grey & Golden Plover and Greenshank. Other birds in the roost were Mediterranean Gull, Shelduck, Pintail, Wigeon and Teal. Rock Pipit, Brent Goose and Chiffchaff were seen and small groups of Swallow were low over the water.
After lunch huddled for shelter in the cars, we went over to Blashford Lakes which was less exposed and has decent hides.
Siskin, Goldcrest, Treecreeper were around the woodland; Great Egret, Pochard, Grey Wagtail and Kingfisher were around the lakes.
A combined species list of 73 was a satisfying total.
