As we celebrate the first day of , we want to say a huge thank you to every one of our incredible volunteers for the time, care, and support you give to Carers across our community.

Last week, our Counsellors joined our Volunteer & Short Breaks Coordinator at the beautiful Kingsmills Hotel for one of our quarterly get-togethers, where we were delighted to welcome a record attendance of 7 Counsellors, including 3 qualified counsellors and 4 student counsellors currently on placement with us from University of the Highlands and Islands and Murray College.

The evening was filled with open discussions, sharing good practice, relevant counselling and Carers support information, planning future training opportunities, and relaxed “get to know you” chats. Of course, there were also plenty of hot and cold drinks and sandwiches enjoyed along the way.

We are absolutely delighted with this fantastic turnout and feel so grateful to have such a passionate, supportive, and dedicated team of volunteers and counsellors working alongside us.

Thank you for everything you do, this Volunteers’ Week and every week.

Carers Week 2026 takes place from 8th–14th June, giving us the opportunity to recognise and celebrate the incredible contribution unpaid Carers make every day.

This year’s theme, “Building Carer Friendly Communities,” is all about creating places where people feel connected, valued and supported. No one in a caring role should feel alone, and through our week of events, we’re bringing people together to build friendships, share experiences and strengthen local support networks.

Our events are designed to create welcoming spaces where Carers can:

🔵Meet and connect with others who understand
🟢Access local support and information
🔵Take time for wellbeing and self-care
🟢Feel part of a supportive community

Unpaid Carers make an enormous difference every single day, and Carers Week is an opportunity to celebrate that contribution while helping build stronger, more supportive communities for the future.

Come along to our events throughout the week as we celebrate and support unpaid Carers across Highland.

Applications are now open for the Take a Break grant programme!

Take a Break Scotland offers cash grants to parents and Carers supporting disabled and seriously ill children and young people aged 0–17.

The grant can be used in lots of different ways, from day trips and short breaks away, to travel costs, additional care support, gardening, home entertainment equipment, and more. It’s designed to give unpaid Carers the chance to take a break from the day-to-day demands of caring, helping to improve wellbeing and quality of life for both Carers and the children or young people they support.
