An interesting day in Ipswich speaking with local people and visitors to our county town.

The feedback was positive, with people taking the opportunity to raise issues that matter to them. Topics discussed included fi****ms licensing and concerns around street drinking.

It was also good to see local officers out in the town, engaging with the public, listening to concerns and responding to issues raised.

🏅 Great news for Suffolk!

The Suffolk OPCC has received a Silver Quality Assurance Award from the Independent Custody Visiting Association (ICVA), recognising the high standard of our Independent Custody Visiting Scheme.

Independent Custody Visitors (ICVs) are volunteers who make unannounced visits to police custody suites, providing independent oversight and helping ensure high standards of care.

This recognition reflects the dedication of our volunteer custody visitors and the work that goes into coordinating the scheme. A special mention goes to Sarah, who manages and supports Suffolk's ICVs, helping the scheme continue to deliver high standards across the county.

A fantastic evening last week with the Lowestoft Volunteer Police Cadets, celebrating the hard work and achievements of the cadets and the dedication of the leaders and volunteers who support them.

The PCC was delighted to attend and thanked everyone involved for their commitment, enthusiasm and contribution to the local community. 👏

These meetings are an opportunity to meet your Police and Crime Commissioner, hear about policing, community safety, and share the issues that matter to you.

The Chief Constable, or a representative from Suffolk Constabulary, will also be in attendance to discuss local issues and answer questions from residents.

🚔 Operation Lifesaver is back this July, with Suffolk Police increasing enforcement and engagement activity across the county.

Speed was recorded as a factor in 47% of fatal collisions in Suffolk in 2025. Even a small reduction in speed can give drivers more time to react and help prevent serious collisions.

With more people travelling across Suffolk during the summer months, please take extra care on our roads. Let's make Suffolk safer for everyone!

📢 Funding opportunity for the voluntary and community sector!

The Ministry of Justice has launched the Women's Diversion Fund grant competition, providing approximately £26 million in funding between January 2027 and March 2029.

The fund aims to support voluntary and community sector organisations delivering activities that help divert women aged 18+ away from further contact with the criminal justice system, with a particular focus on reducing the number of women entering prison.

⏰ Applications close on 24 July 2026, with funding awards expected to be announced in late September.

This week, we’re highlighting the positive work taking place across Suffolk as part of Neighbourhood Policing Week.

Neighbourhood teams – including police officers, PCSOs and volunteers – work closely with communities to identify local concerns, tackle crime and anti-social behaviour, and support targeted problem-solving alongside partners.

Changes introduced to community policing in December 2023 were designed to respond to rising and changing demand, helping ensure the Suffolk Constabulary continues to provide an effective, visible and responsive service. The PCC is really pleased with the results and has received positive feedback from the public.
