A special moment in Christchurch Park as Ipswich's third Legend on the Bench is installed. 💙

Made possible through the support of a local family, the bench provides a place for reflection, connection and support and includes a QR code linking to mental health services.

Located near the Mansion Lawn, this is the third Legend on the Bench in Ipswich, joining others in Bourne Park and Chantry Park.

Election time!

Many of you may have spoken to some of our Labour team this weekend, as we have been out campaigning in Rushmere Ward since Friday.

We will now be out every night, somewhere in the North East of the town talking to residents, you will also probably now be receiving leaflets from many political groups, but it is only Ipswich Labour who will be out every day, knocking on doors and listening to residents

Our candidates for May are:

Ipswich Borough Council:
Rushmere - Stefan Long
St John's - Neil Macdonald
Bixley - Paul Anderson

Suffolk County Council:
Rushmere - Martin Cook
St Clements - Adele Cook
Bixley - Laurence Bradley

These will be the last every Suffolk County Council elections and possibly the last for the Borough - as next year we should all be voting for the new Unitary Council, that will cover Ipswich but also Felixstowe, Hadleigh and Martlesham.

Background:
25% of Suffolk households don’t have a driveway, meaning that residents only option is to park on their road. This is a significant barrier for people who would like an EV, as they have no convenient way to charge. Using specific, allocated funding from the government’s ‘Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure’ fund, we are providing a solution by installing chargepoints on their street, or very nearby. Our goal is to provide residents with a public chargepoint within a 5–10-minute walk or wheel of where they live.

There are around 1.5 million EVs on the country’s roads and we need thousands of new public chargepoints in Suffolk both to keep up with predicted demand and to help drive the transition; we estimate around 5,400 are needed by 2030, rising to 12,000 by 2040. The Plug in Suffolk project will deliver over 6,500 charging sockets across the next 5 years, bringing us significantly closer to the required numbers.
