I am currently sitting on Primrose Hill and can hear a distant Cuckoo calling from somewhere within the Brocklesby Estate!
Not heard a Cuckoo around here for a long, long time 🙂

Just seen my first Keelby Hobby of 2026, circling very high up over the village.

A really nice walk earlier today along Cissplatt Lane, up Primrose Hill then cutting across Nuns Cotham to Roxton Woods, before the temperature got too warm. Plenty to see, including a new addition to the Keelby Village Bird List in the form of a singing Reed Warbler, found in a most unexpected pace - singing from within the bottom of the large hedge along Cissplatt Lane! Also a new species of butterfly was recorded.

Thirty-eight species of bird noted during the walk:

A new addition to the Butterfly list was a Small Copper.

The Keelby Village Bird list now contains 114 species (includes historical sightings) of which I have seen 101.

The Keelby Village Butterfly list now contains 22 species.

Just found a singing Reed Warbler along Cissplatt Lane, at the end near the gate to Nuns Cotham.
The bird is singing from within scrub at the bottom of the tall hedge.
A new addition to the Keelby Village bird list!

Red Kite up over the village. Drifting from the Riby Rd area towards the sports field.

It's good to see that Swifts are back over Keelby again. Matthew Chaplin noted three over the school this afternoon and I have just seen my first one of the year feeding over our garden. Looking back at my records, the Swifts have returned to the area two days earlier than last year.

Red Kite drifting over the village this lunchtime. Initially reported over Riby Rd, then 10 minutes later seen drifting over Yarborough Rd heading towards Nuns Cotham field.

A nice after work walk around the village patch this afternoon. 39 species recorded.

First Common Whitethroat of 2026 heard singing this morning from trees that form the sports field boundary, opposite Roxton Lane.

A walk up to Roxton Woods this morning found thirty-nine species of bird recorded including a new entry onto the Keelby Village bird list in the form of a Ruff!

The Keelby Village bird list now contains one hundred and thirteen entries, of which I have recorded one hundred, the Ruff being my one hundredth species recorded around the village.
