đźš’ A smoke alarm alerted around 30 people to a tumble dryer fire at a temple in Hatfield Peverel this afternoon.

Everyone did the right thing – they got out, stayed out and called 999.

Thankfully, nobody was injured and firefighters quickly dealt with the fire.

Station Manager Steve Kirkham said: "That early warning from the smoke alarm gave everyone the time they needed to get to safety.

"Fires can develop quickly, but today’s incident shows the difference a working smoke alarm can make."

Stay in the room when charging devices - that’s the advice from firefighters after a power bank caused a flat fire in Southend today ⚡

Three crews were called to a flat fire in Southend this afternoon after a power bank being used to charge a watch caught fire.

Station Manager Russ Freeman said: “If you're charging any electrical device at home, we’d recommend you stay in the room while charging.

“Don’t charge devices longer than recommended and make sure you use a charger recommended by the manufacturer. If you need to buy a new charger or battery for your device, please make sure it confirms to the British Standards for fire safety.”

Firefighters are at the scene of a vehicle fire on the A12 at Witham Southbound between Junction 22 and 21.

Due to a difficult water supply, nine crews are working to put the fire out affecting a vehicle carrier on the hard shoulder.

The A12 is closed and will remain closed at Witham on the Southbound side while we put the fire out. Thank you for your patience.

If you're looking to cool off in the water while it's hot outside, here are some top tips to stay safe from Daisy and Jade ⬇️

- Never swim alone in case you need help
- Remember float to live. If you start to struggle in water, float on your back with your arms and legs stretched out like a star until the effects of cold water shock pass
- Never enter the water to try and rescue someone. Call 999 and ask for the Fire Service if you're inland or the Coastguard if you're at the coast
- Don’t dive or jump straight into open water. It can cause potentially fatal cold water shock, even on the warmest day
- Don’t drink alcohol when undertaking water related activities. It impairs judgement and your ability to swim
- Actively supervise children in and around water - drowning can happen quickly and silently
- Download the free app what3words to help give a more accurate location of where you are in an emergency

Would you believe it if we told you that not every home in Essex has a working smoke alarm or a smoke alarm at all?

This is really concerning for us.

Today crews attended a kitchen fire in Tilbury where the home owners had no working smoke alarm.

We can’t emphasise it enough, they’re your first warning to a fire and can give you time to safely escape your home and call us quickly.

If you or someone you know needs one - we fit them for free. Details in the comments 👇
