🚧 ROAD MAINTENANCE WORKS – HEADLANDS ROAD, RUSHDEN

Kier Transportation, on behalf of North Northamptonshire Council, will be carrying out highway maintenance works on Headlands Road, Rushden on:

Monday 15 June 2026
08:00 – 16:30

These works involve repairing isolated areas of the carriageway ahead of planned Micro Asphalt surfacing works scheduled for September 2026.

The repairs will help ensure the road is in the best possible condition before surfacing takes place, extending its lifespan and reducing the need for more extensive repairs in the future.

Temporary traffic management will be in place.
On-street parking within the works area may be restricted while works are underway.
We will aim to maintain access for residents and businesses wherever it is safe to do so.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we carry out these essential improvements.

⚠️ Works Update – Lowick A6116 Bypass

Due to a vehicle fire on the A14, which forms part of the diversion route for our planned surface dressing works, today's works on the Lowick A6116 Bypass have been postponed.

Subject to the A14 reopening and suitable weather conditions, we are now aiming to begin the works on Saturday 30 May 2026.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding.

⚠️ Upcoming Roadworks – Steel Road, Corby

Please be advised that resurfacing works will begin on 26 May 26 at 8pm.

The scheme will be delivered in phases, with works including:
• Binder course resurfacing - 26 May - 2 Jun 26
• Surface course resurfacing - 3 Jun - 9 Jun 26
• Road markings & high friction surfacing - 10 - 12 Jun 26

Due to the nature of the works, Steel Road will be operating under a road closure between the hours of 8pm - 6am during the programme.

Whilst access assistance will be provided where reasonably practicable, this will be heavily dependent on the phase of works taking place at the time. There will be periods — particularly during surfacing operations and junction works — where vehicle access through the closure will not be possible.

We would therefore encourage businesses, residents, and visitors to plan ahead.

Full scheme information can be viewed here:

We appreciate your patience and cooperation whilst these essential highway improvement works are carried out.

🚧 A6 Weekend Closure – Irthlingborough Viaduct Works

North Northamptonshire Council, working in partnership with Kier Highways, will be carrying out essential maintenance works on the A6 at Irthlingborough viaduct next month.

To keep disruption as low as possible, works are planned over two weekends:

Phase 1
Full Closure: Fri 8 May (8pm) – Mon 11 May (6am)
Overnight closure: Mon 11 May (8pm) – Tue 12 May (6am)

Phase 2
Full Closure: Fri 29 May (8pm) – Mon 1 June (6am)
Overnight closure: Mon 1 June (8pm) – Tue 2 June (6am)

Why are these works needed?
The viaduct, built in 1936, requires waterproofing and repairs to protect its structure and prevent recurring potholes—particularly on decks 6 and 7, which are a priority.

What’s happening during the closure?
• Removal of existing surfacing and waterproofing
• Concrete repairs where needed
• New waterproofing system applied
• Road resurfacing and line marking

All works are weather-dependent and must be completed in dry conditions.

Diversions
Signed diversion routes will be in place—please follow local signage, plan ahead, and allow extra travel time.

More info here: https://one.network/?tmi=GB44818688

Contingency Dates (if needed due to weather):
Phase 1: 15–18 May
Phase 2: 5–8 June

We’ll keep you updated here with any changes.

Thank you for your patience while we carry out these essential works to keep the network safe and reliable.

End of Winter Service Update – 2025/2026 ❄️

As we move into spring, we’ve now reached the end of this year’s winter service season, which officially concluded on 11 April 2026.

During March, conditions were relatively mild, with the lowest road surface temperature recorded at -0.5°C. In response, our teams carried out eight precautionary gritting runs to help keep roads safe for all users.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank our dedicated Winter Service teams for their continued commitment and hard work over the past six months, supporting communities right across North Northamptonshire.

Looking ahead, we are now beginning a review of grit bin requests received this season. This will ensure all assessments — and any agreed changes — are completed in good time ahead of the 2026/2027 winter season.

Thank you to residents for your support throughout the winter.
