Good morning,

I wanted to take this opportunity to make you aware of the Warm Homes:Local Grant scheme which is now open for applications to residents of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk.

Letters have been landing at various properties across the borough over the last few days, so I wanted to ensure that all parish councils are provided with the necessary reassurance around the legitimacy of this grant.

The Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk has been working as part of the Norfolk Warm Homes consortium since 2022 to facilitate the implementation of domestic energy efficiency grants across the borough. These grants typically accommodate the replacement of central heating with air source heating, insulation measures and solar PV where appropriate.

Previous grants have included LAD & HUG, however these have now both been replaced by the Warm Homes: Local Grant (WH:LG) which is now open for applications.

Any interested or concerned residents are advised to contact myself through either [email protected] or on 01553 616227 for details. Alternatively, households that wish to make an application should visit the following link - Norfolk Warm Homes

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries regarding this correspondence.

Many thanks,

Jacob Medlock, Housing Standards Officer (Energy Efficiency)

We are pleased to announce that Transport East’s Travel Behaviour Survey Report for Norfolk has now been published.
You can find the full report on our website: https://www.transporteast.gov.uk/travel-survey/norfolk/
This comprehensive document offers invaluable insights into how residents across Norfolk travel, their reasons for transport choices, and the barriers they face in adopting more sustainable methods. The findings can play a critical role in guiding transport planning and policy development across the area.
The regional Travel Behaviour Report, published in January, is also available and provides a broader view of travel patterns and behaviours across the East.
If you have any questions, please contact [email protected].

RTS (Radio Teleswitch Service) boxes are an old technology, introduced in the 1980s, attached to electricity meters in homes with an all-electric supply. Their purpose is to tell the meter when to switch between peak and off-peak and they are a vital part of keeping costs under control for all-electric customers.

At the end of June, all RTS boxes will stop working.

As such it is the responsibility of the utility providers to help their customers with this, by switching them to SMART meters. However, our research has shown that information on the subject is not that easy to find and, although we believe that the utility companies have written to their customers, we know that some people have a mistrust of SMART meters. We know of customers in West Norfolk who have refused to switch for this very reason.

Our concern is that some vulnerable customers will find their bills soaring in June, when their meter will stop differentiating between peak and off-peak, so they will be charged peak prices for all consumption.

I am writing to ask you to do anything you can in your own ward or parish to raise awareness, if necessary directly, with anyone you know who may be affected.

I am attaching a leaflet that we have produced to help customers – we will be happy to give you paper copies if you would find them useful – please let us know how many you would like by emailing [email protected]

We have also created a web page, which is available here www.west-norfolk.gov.uk/rtsboxes.

Kind regards

On Saturday 17th February on Boughton Pond you may have witnessed scenes recalling Jerome K Jerome or Last of the Summer Wine. In fact, Parish Councillors and volunteers were applying a calcium carbonate product to the water to help reduce the silt that has built up over the years. This is the Environment Agency recommended course of action, preferred over dredging....
